When I misplace something, I am overcome by a sense of urgency and HAVE to find it as soon as possible. I enter panic mode, I cry and I yell. I can't think about anything else until I locate the item. This is especially severe if I have misplaced something like my keys. Back when I lost my purse a few months ago, I was in absolute terror and panic until it was found (minus $20 and my lucky $2 bill which they could not have stolen without seeing my ID. they lived in my dorm, a building with only 200 people. they knew who they stole from )
Anyone else experience this? |

Bullseye.
Over the years, I've developed my system. I hang things on my walls. Horizontal never worked well for me. And, as expected, I check my pockets very frequently. Far from a problem, I almost never misplace anything. I don't know how so many people choose / live with chaos, I do not have the ability to tolerate chaos. _________________ ASQ: 45. RAADS-R: 229.

| Nothing pisses me off like losing things, which is ironic because I lose everything. You should see me renovate some time. Whatever tool I was using 15 seconds ago, it's lost now. |

Oh God yes! I've wasted hours upon hours and strayed too close to the MD zone over a wallet or keys I just set down. Literally cannot move past it until I rip the whole place apart to find I laid something on top of it without thinking _________________ "You're probably wondering why I'm here, and so am I, so am I" (not that it makes a heck of a lot of a difference anyway) |

| YES, yes and yes!!!! Losing things is upsetting on so many levels, regardless of how major or minor the item is. I get an irrational fear that the universe (or whatever) is conspiring to completely hide the item.....I worry that something was stolen, all kinds of crap go through my head. |

I am the same, the moment I put something down it is lost, if I look away then back again it never seems to be in the same place!
I also get very stressed out if I need to find something quickly, and can "never see for looking" as my grandma used to say _________________ Female, 16

Oh yes this is me. For someone who likes to know where things are, I lose stuff a lot. I crave neatness and organization but I struggle with it. My house looks neat, but if you open the drawers it's all a jumble. Today I have lost something really important but I am too tired to get properly upset about it. |

I hardly ever lose anything, but I misplace stuff all the time, and I absolutely hate it. I used to get really anxious about it, but these days I have more faith, and being calmer, I find things again more quickly.
It amazes me how efficiently I can misplace things. Couldn't do it better if I were doing it deliberately.
Why does it happen? Short-term memory trouble? I don't know. What seems to happen is that I put a thing down automatically, without thinking about it at all, while I'm focussing on something else. So not surprisingly there's no memory of where I put it.......it was an unconscious action. Mostly I find things in the places I'd expect to find them....I have to think back to what I was doing and wonder "where would I have put it?" But sometimes I find stuff parked in the most illogical places.
I wish I had a servant. I could get him to watch me carefully and to train me to focus on where I put things. I'm sure if I just gave it that moment's attention when I put stuff down, I'd have a lot less of a problem. And training the mind to do such a simple thing doesn't seem conceptually difficult. |

Losing things annoys me so much > especially since I tend to lose the thing a few minutes before placing it somewhere _________________ Please, if you are a female don't PM, IM or contact me in anyway. This isn't a joke, I've just simply had enough of all of you.

Yep and I ask St Anthony for help. He's the patron saint of lost objects. I say "Tony, Tony, come around. Something's lost and can't be found!"
Sometimes I find it, sometimes I don't. _________________ Frances

| Yes, when I loose something I truly become a different person; not a nice one. I usually remember previous places that I put it, but cannot remember the [i]last[/i. Place I out it. I think it's a lack of short-term memory and excellent long term memory. |

I am the EXACT same way! About the memory thing.
it's comforting to know I'm not the only one who goes ballistic when something is misplaced! |

| Yep. I panic and begin to have really bad anxiety. I won't be calm until I find it, or someone tells me to think rationally or not worry about it. |

good idea! i hang some stuff up but not enough. if it's something i need i have to find it. (i try to remain calm and recall)
i usually have a feeling of desperation right before i find it, like my brain knows it's about to tell me where it is but at the same time makes me feel despair. that is only for things i have lost within a few days at most |
