I can definitely relate to that! I know far more than is necessary because everyone seems to question me endlessly about why I am vegan.

If I had a penny for every time someone brought up protein.... Razz I didn't know it was that violently opposed until I started living that lifestyle!

It's really fun reading everybody's obsessions! I love this thread!

O.K., mine:
-historic infectious diseases, like smallpox (current focus), bubonic plague, cholera
-bacteria and viruses
-wilderness and primitive skills
-wild animals and birds
-homesteading
-textiles and clothing
-herbal medicine and botany
-Christmas (historical traditions, like figgy pudding)
-memorizing old poetry (chaucer, shakespeare)
-j.s. bach
-old cookbooks and recipes
-OK, I'll admit it, royalty is on the list. A furtive special interest in modern royalty.
-artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and, these days, autism and asperger's.

Pipilo, while not on my list, I used to be seriously addicted to wilderness survival skills (it wasn't listed because it has a sub list all its own) along with trapping, fishing, hunting, flintknapping, tanning, making fire with many methods, wild foods and even a bit of bush medicine and much much more... I'm sure you own them already, but if not, may I suggest the Foxfire books?

Thanks, omnicognic, they are kind of an obsession unto themselves, there are times when all I can do is sit and read foxfire books. I wish there were a hundred of them.

The only obsession I ever left behind was writing software in integer basic for apple computers. Burned my self out and realized I cant sit still long enough to write programs.
All my other obsessions cycle but are all ways there.
cars
bikes
survival
mechanical, electrical any that I can tear apart and re-purpose

I would say my special interests change about every 2-3 years.

My current fixation is autism but it's a broad topic and I tend to fixate on sub-topics of it at different times. For example, for the past half a year, I've really gotten into exploring ABA-based therapies.

I also have side-special interests, which tend to last very long and I sometimes can suddenly start fixating on them for a whole day or so. These interests are, for me,
- Nutrition
- Pop music (only very specific artists I start fixating on for a period of time and then stop)
- Fashion (a recent one)
- A local pizza chain called Pizza Pizza

My obsessions change whenever there's a new opportunity. Sometimes I am obsessed with three things in a row. Each for... two weeks or so. And the next obsession can last a whole year. Or longer.

My obsessions are usually related to music. And it's four years now that I am obsessed with films. So that's the two big fields.

Sometimes my obsessions are related to literature and art.

Some of my obsessions from the last couple of years are:

Cillian Murphy
Keanu Reeves
River Phoenix
Tears For Fears
Mark Owen
Thomas Newman
Frédéric Chopin

As a child, I was also obsessed with TV series. Usually the "unpopular" ones.

Protein is a regular. I also get the "cheese" reply a lot why people think they could never go vegan.
