You can hardly blame government spending solely on the left. The right tends to spend just as much as the left (or what passes for the left in the US) does except on different things.

Well, that's a whole other topic but I wasn't necessarily even going there to say who's fault it was. It still yields a particular reality at the grocery store. She was ripping into Walmart and Applebee's over things that they were reacting to rather than really setting the precedent.

Why do I get the feeling that I am in an alternate universe where it is the mods that are doing the trolling.

Alright, I really just do not understand anyone who defends Rush Limbaugh even an ounce. Rush Limbaugh is a real life troll. End of discussion. Apparently half of this world is also a real life troll and I am the crazy one.

This is pretty tame as far as Rush Limbaugh goes to be honest.

True. And that is the problem.

He just says stuff to rile people up. He has no sense of dignity. I really can't believe he is as dumb as he acts.

Yes, this incident is pretty tame by his standards.

I've never really "gotten" Rush, and that includes never really getting why people would get riled about anything he says. I could kinda see the appeal of listening to someone you agree with say nasty things about people you disagree with, and I can *almost* understand listening to an ideological foe to try and get into an opponent's head, but I can't see listening to someone who's raison d'etre is to say nasty things about you and people like you and expect to not be offended.

Here's a couple of much better articles about Rush:

Techstep is not a mod (long story, lazy administrators involved), and defending an unpopular figure is not trolling, no matter how loathsome you may find that particular character.

Good to know. I thought he was a mod, not that it matters.

Point taken. I guess I should be a little more careful with my words.

My remark was meant to be taken lightly... like why do people defend him? not to be taken as you are a troll for defending limbaugh.... that is not what i meant

Protip: accusing someone you think is a mod of trolling is not likely to be taken lightly around here; as much as I hate them personally, I have to advise the use of smilies when employing any kind of sarcasm or non-literal meaning on WP lest misunderstandings occur.

As to Limbaugh, some people defend him because they agree with him, some people defend him because they think he get's singled out unfairly, I'm sure plenty of people defend him simply because he pisses off liberals. When I defend him, which I'm actually not doing here (my linked articles are not flattering), I usually don't so much defend him as his right to say whatever latest outrage he said.
In this case, we've already been through this quite recently with Rush saying something misogynistic and being condemned for it, so I fail to see where either the surprise or the outrage are coming from; it's like turning on Howard Stern and being shocked at the juvenile antics.

Truthfully I wasn't meaning to defend Rush so much as...reality? I get worried when these kinds of things seem to feed wild political us vs. them fantasies that people have; IMO they're incredibly destructive all the way around. Yeah, I clearly get that people would say that Rush is 800 pound gorilla example of just that. Like Dox I don't get Limbaugh or Savage that well myself, I have friends who'll listen to them at the exclusion of anyone I used to listen to mainly on the standpoint that they found them boring or unenergetic - I suppose its different strokes.

I would agree with the core message - ie. that when government tries to grab up any miniscule thing - it generally doesn't bode well for that thing, how its administered, the quality once that decision is made, untangling it again from government, etc. etc.. However with Rush's pejoratives I agree they're incredibly unwise. As for the free birth control topic however I disagree with him on that - he should just point out that anyone who's angry about that should understand that they opened the doorway with that while giving out free condoms and that if they're going to do that the reciprocal is only fair.

Yeah, this is nothing to blow a gasket over. He's just being a prick as usual...

Criticizing Limbaugh is giving him far too much credit.

I was just thinking about that on my way home - a person could cherrypick his show and paint him to be a paragon of ancient evil; they'd be grabbing things he said but then acting as if these were island statements, meant seriously, in a show tame enough to where these statements had a salience all their own. Its one thing to slap someone's hand for antics but its worrying when people rearrange intent with them.
