Any comments? For some reason the most memerable quote I've read was "When the game is over, both the king and the pawn go in the same box"- Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey's mother, after she faced her daughter and won for the first and last time, the other quotes that stick out in my mind are very poetic and very distubing ( due to several refernces to the grave). |

What is your first name? Pass.
Age: Early twenties.
Location: Southern U.S.A.
Hobbies and Interests: Music, computers, the Internet, tech, TV series, marketing, business news, political ideology, U.S. culture and geography, comedy, traveling, writing, daydreaming, etc.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Clinical depression in 2006, panic syndrome in 2007, and ADHD in 2012.
Favorite subjects: When I was still in school it used to be English, my native language, and the social sciences.

Favorite music: Hip-hop, electronic, and folk. But I can enjoy almost any type of music. Sometimes naturally, sometimes if I put my mind to it.
Books: I don't read nearly as many books as I'd like to. I have a hard time concentrating and dedicating to it. Therefore, most of my reading is done online.
TV shows/Movies: TV Shows would be Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 30 Rock, Gilmore Girls, Breaking Bad, Freaks and Geeks, Futurama, Family Guy, Workaholics, Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show , The Colbert Report, How I Met Your Mother, Weeds, and Community. Instrument: Voice.
Do you like sports? No.
Family: Separated parents, one younger sister. They live overseas and I don't see them very much.
Clothing: Sometimes urban/hip-hop, sometimes plain as day, and sometimes weird attempts at "hip" and well-matched clothes. But I have no idea what I'm doing, and the one consistency in my style would be that I almost never dress my age.
How did you find this website? A thread was linked from another message board.
Job: I work in an office.
Plans for the future? Yes.
Any comments? Nope. _________________ Nothing is impossible, but everything is really hard.

What is your first name? No, don't think so.
Age: Twenties.
Location: South Canada
Hobbies and Interests: travelling, pop sci, journalling, self-help, recovery, painting, running, yoga, ballet, theatre, social justice, decolonization....
Why are you here? I have lots of Asperger's symptoms, but I haven't been diagnosed... here for support. Apparently I also have depression. I have to keep telling it things and people have to tell me things so that it goes away for a while...
Favorite subjects: literary theory, psychology, philosophy, sociology, disability studies, art history
Year/Grade: Working on second degree.
Favorite music: anything, really: indie, industrial, classical, jazz, klezmer, opera, rap, pop, latin, and of course, metal...
Books: Some I've read several times:The English Patient, Anna Karenina, The Passion, Rent Girl, Steppenwolf... Currently reading Infinite Jest which feels like 100 books in one. Thought I should mention it because I'm proud: this book is so big and heavy, and yo my arms are totally getting ripped just holding the damn thing.
TV shows/Movies: TV Shows: Freaks and Geeks, Kids in the Hall, Monty Python, Whose line is it anyway, Flight of the Conchords, The I.T. Crowd, Drawn Together, etc. etc.
Movies: Bladerunner, Wings of Desire, The Big Lebowski, The English Patient, 500 Days of Summer, Seven Samurai, Desperate Living, pretty much anything written, directed or produced by Judd Apatow & Co. Really, really likes Sam Peckinpah and Fassbinder. Enjoys French films of beautiful women being insane with a great accent.
Instrument: Used to play piano, now I suck at it. I sing in the shower now, and I'm awesome at that.
Do you like sports? I don't do well with organized competitive sports, but I'm not adverse to kicking balls for fun. Like, soccer balls.
Family: "alive" and "well". Could be better, but that's family.
Clothing: Varies. Described as goth, artsy, classic, or that I look like a dancer, or a teacher for an alternative high school, whatever that means. I think I know what that means.
How did you find this website? Google search, looking for other people who had issues with social skills.
Job: Recently unemployed, currently attending uni.
Plans for the future? Yes, watch out world.
Any comments? Glad to be here! |

What is your first name? Dominique
Age: 36
Location: California
Hobbies and Interests: Film, Art, Music, Medicine, Languages, Books
Why are you here? I have Asperger's Syndrome
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): This week, officially
Favorite subjects: Microbiology, Physiology, Pathophysiology, any language, art
Year/Grade: DONE with school
Favorite music: Right now I am really into Vampire Weekend, but my eternal favorites are PJ Harvey and Nick Cave
Books: Any text book on medicine/diseases, The Merck Manual, Color Atlas and Synopsis of Clinical Dermatology, Anomalies and Curiosities of Medicine (copywrite: 1896!) etc. etc. etc. ...aside from all the medical stuff I like the diaries of Anais Nin, Henry Miller, Milan Kundera, and Marguerite Duras
TV shows/Movies: I don't watch TV. I am obsessed with any movie starring (or co-starring) Portugese actress Maria de Medeiros, many of you may know her as the part of "Fabienne" in Pulp Fiction. Me and You and Everyone We Know, Ghost World, We Need to Talk about Kevin (I probably capitalized incorrectly), I Think We're Alone Now, documentaries, Amelie, foreign fims...etc. etc. etc.
Instrument: When I was a child I used to play the violin. When I was a teenager I played the guitar. Now I am kind of a loser and don't play anything.
Do you like sports? No. Except running. I like ballet too (is that a sport?) it has helped tremendously in my posture and coordination (I took private lessons-at my mom's urging- as a teenager because I couldn't deal with the thought of a class with other people. I hated it at the time, but it has been invaluable to me in improving my overall clumsiness/dorkiness)
Family: They are pretty much all dead now.
Clothing: I wear the same thing most of the time. I buy ten of the same color and type of shirt(s). I like very plain, uniform-ish looking clothes. I love the colors black, navy blue, khaki, burgundy, and grey. I will only ever wear dark socks
How did you find this website? I typed "Asperger's support" in google
Job: I work in a laboratory at a hospital
Plans for the future? I have several degrees in other disciplines (I'm a Registered Nurse, Bachelors in Anthropology/Archaeology, Make-up Artist)...I want to figure out some way to utilize my accomplishments (ie. WORK) with having the least amount of contact with other people as possible
Any comments? Not really. |

What is your first name? Emily
Age: 25
Location: Wisconsin
Hobbies and Interests: I love languages with a passion (I am currently studying to be an interpreter/translator) as well as a love of science, sci-fi/fantasy books, and most anything related to new technology. I absolutely love planning out big, elaborate things (such as a death star to serve as a moon/colony for mars terraforming, or the mansion in a bio-dome that stretches 3 football fields -the dome, not the home-)
Why are you here? Non-diagnosed AS; the symptoms could be nothing but (unless I have grossly misinformed and biased myself looking for answers) I guess what I'm looking for is other people who can lead me in the right direction in my life; I'm pretty self-reliant (to a fault, at times, but I'm learning to forgo this particular aspect) and I'm told I'm bright, though when interacting with anyone over about age 15, I feel as though I am 6 years old, and they are my babysitter, so to speak. I want to know if there's anything I can/should do to help myself out with life in general, school, relationships, and mainly, raising kids. I currently don't have any, I've been very careful to avoid having any, because I am in no way ready for or responsible enough to care fr a second person, and my goals in life are just for me, not me+ family.
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Unofficially earlier this year. A friend who is also un-diagnosed AS suggested I have a look-see, since he and I instinctively get on with each other like twins.
Favorite subjects: Languages, science
Year/Grade: 2nd year of Uni, went back to school at 24 after a stint in the Navy and a very bad abusive relationship
Favorite music: Anything not in English, excluding rap, which is, in my opinion, bad in every language :p
Books: sci-fi/fantasy, I won't even begin to list them, it'd take too long
TV shows/Movies: Documentaries, mostly.. I don't much care for sitcoms (other then Big Bang Theory) or most of the other stuff generally broadcast
Do you like sports? Some; I wrestled all through school (about 6 years) and love watching hockey, but not much more then that
Family: Large extended NT family on my dad's side that is smotheringly affectionate and close, small extended family on my mom's side, 5/7 of my cousins are socially awkward, very smart, and generally have a fair number of light to moderate AS traits. No immediate family; my mom passed a cpl years ago (I very strongly believe she had AS, although the frustration of not knowing herself led to a very bad life ) my dad has been absent since I was young, opting to go to football games rather then show up for visitation. My step-dad is more like a brother, because he has no clue about parenting, but we don't relate well most of the time, it's purely out of responsibility that I maintain contact (he has no other family) My sister has been more or less out of the picture for years.. I believe she is the NT child of an AS single parent.. It wasn't easy for either of us, but I understand she did her best; I don't think my sister does, or ever will.
Clothing: Has to be stretchy, anything tight I cannot wear. I shop at goodwill because I can select based on fabric more easily and find things I like. I'm well-dressed, but not "fashionable" (I know what looks good, and avoid what doesn't)
How did you find this website? Google search for Parenting with Asperger's, and spent 6 hours reading one thread before registering.
Job: Student
Plans for the future? Travel the world, talk to everyone I can, find a place to settle someday, build a huge dome with a castle and sub-tropical climate, work for the UN.. I plan pretty big stuff, that way if I come anywhere close, I've made it farther then most
Any comments? What prompted me to join the community was this quote "when I ask for clarification on your every word or so it seems, I am actually showing you respect , proving that I in no way intend to twist your words or misunderstand you, so you won't feel diminished or attacked." which was followed by a breakdown of social rules I've followed that most people don't seem to understand. It's wonderful to find that, in fact, my way of doing things isn't entirely bad or wrong. |
