I'm an 18 year old girl and I love Transformers. I love the shows, the movies, and the toys.

I recently got a Starscream Transformers Prime actions figure and want to save up for a G1 Starscream action figure.

I don't have a job, I don't feel like I'm ready for one, and I only get an allowance of ten dollars each week.

Today, my Mom told me that I should be saving my money for stuff for collage since "An 18 year old shouldn't really be playing with Transformers toys."

Her comment really hurt me and I'm not talking to her for the moment. I know I'm 18 and I know that collage is coming up and I know it's expensive. I just....why is it that I can't enjoy my obsessions any more? Because I'm now 18? Because adults shouldn't play with toys or admire them?

If that's what I have to do, then I really don't want to be an adult.

So...what do you guys think? Should I squash my obsessions and start focusing on "being an adult"? Or should I continue to enjoy my obsessions and move along towards adulthood at my own pace?

Im 30+ and still enjoy Hello Kitty, legos, stickers, pillow pets, etc! Your mom has her expectations of you, and you aren't necessarily going to be able to do anything about that. But stay true to you! Smile You can go to college and love Transformers, it is not going to prevent you from becoming an adult.

IF you get rid of your collection to make someone else happy, you won't be happy, and you can never really make someone else happy anyway so you might as well stay happy Smile

Thanks. It just hurts to hear things like that. I know that my parents just want the best for me but I really want to keep buying the stuff that I like. I don't even HAVE that much money saved up right now because my Mom takes it sometimes to buy food, it REALLY makes me mad when she does that, even if she pays me back. It's my money, I earned it, I should be able to do whatever the heck I want with it!

I don't even know what to put my allowance money towards for collage, I haven't even started classes yet so I don't know what I'll be needing. She confuses me. ><

I don't care for it, but if 18 year olds did not like transformers then it would not make millions and millions of dollars at the movie theaters.

I'm going to be 18 in a few months myself and I play Yu-Gi-Oh! competitively. You can keep your interest in Transformers for as long as you want, it's something you enjoy. Adults have things they enjoy too and you are no different because adults have things they enjoy too. It's just the fact you have something you like. If you continue to like it, there is nothing wrong with keeping that interest. Very Happy

If you like Transformers, then carry on playing with them, collecting e.t.c and don't worry about what other people say Wink

Enjoy what you like, but try to see that there isn't really a point to buying the toys and stuff.

It's not going to make an impact on anybody, and it's just so pointless.

Not that I don't like anime, but still...

You should learn to express yourself in more meaningful ways, such as work, and by work I mean an actual JOB that will change people's lives.

Like the Peace Corps or something.

Aspies have a higher sense of social justice than NT's, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

Also, save more money for college.

my very close friend Summer is 17 and is OBSESSED with Transformers, she likes the shows, video games, movies, toys, she even writes Transformers fanfiction, her obsession is so bad its also a sexual obsession, she literally has a fetish with Transformers, i never even knew Transformers porn existed until i met Summer(she is an Aspie like me, but my obsession is with learning) i dont remember her username on FanFiction.net but i will ask her and when i do i will edit it to include that as well. so my advice to you is just do whatever makes you happy and ignore what everyone else says to the contrary and it is perfectly possible to be an "adult" and have and enjoy your obsessions, im 18 and i still like to pretend im a jedi or a wizard at Hogwarts...only when im alone though not many people know that i havent grown out of it yet and like with Summer im not into Transformers porn but i support her because hey whatever makes her happy right?

Summer's page is http://www.fanfiction.net/u/3228673/metalatron_she_lives and her 3rd favorite thing to do is 3)DRAWING RANDOM TRANSFORMERS YAOI and yaoi is male on male hentai, thats her fetish lol

so again there is nothing wrong with your obsession

transformers is cool.

im 33 and i remember it from when it first started. the original series was brilliant. i used to have the megatron which was a gun and came with all the weapon attachments that just wouldnt be allowed now.

i have the complete first generation on dvd but after that im lost when it comes to the transformers universe.

I know what it's like when people make you upset and aren't aware. People often forget how our condition interferes with certain things. Now let's be honest with yourself. Your an adult by law and your still playing with toys. If this abides with your ideas of and ideal adult hood, then go ahead and pursue it. It's that straight forward. And by the way, I dig girls who are into transformers.

I think it's absolutely fine that you still like Transformers! The Transformers are awesome - I even have some of the little plastic Fisher Price ones that came in the two - packs (Cuz they're so cute!), along with plushies of Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, an Optimus Prime keychain on my backpack, and one of those toys that you "transform" yourself...it's one of Mudflap from TF2 and it's the only one of those toys I have cuz they're waaaayyy to complicated for me, lol...

I'm 20 years old and I still love what people would write off as "childish things..." I have collections of stuffed animals, die cast Cars, and My Little Ponies, and I still watch shows like Doc McStuffins and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic...I also like all kinds of animated movies, too - Disney and Pixar, Don Bluth, Studio Ghibli, Halas and Batchelor...

And don't worry about your mom....my stepmom's always saying dumb stuff like that to me, too. Just remember, she can't force you to do anything anymore, now that you're 18. Wink Just smile and nod until she finishes bombarding you with unsolicited advice and then just keep doin' what you're doin'. That's what works for me, anyway.
