How could one participate in a forum such as lgbt without violating prohibitions against sexism or fetish?

Don't those prohibitions prevent this very topic?

i split your post into a new topic because the rules thread should actually have been locked.

i am confused by your question. how is being LGBT (or discussing it) inherently sexist or a fetish?

I think that depends on who gets to define those words. Since they are presumably defined however the owner and/or moderators see fit in the moment, that's pretty scary for those of us who are accustomed to getting thrown off discussion forums for speaking plainly.

Anything dealing with any particular orientation is inherently sexist by definition. Whether it's offensively so seems like a matter of opinion, but as orientation is, in our culture, ostensibly based on sex and/or gender, we're already well into sexist territory already.

The rules don't require the sexism to be offensive, though. They only prohibit sexism.

You are the first person to raise such an issue with the LGBT forum; the perceived problem seems to be one of your own making.

+1
I also believe your are creating a matter which in honesty is one of your own perception.
I will take it back if someone else agrees with you but for now I'm more convinced you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

What I'm hearing you tell me is that I'm unwelcome on this board since the rules are mandatory and yet apparently not enforced.

And at least two of you seem to think this discrepancy is somehow my fault, even though I've just arrived.

You are welcome on WP. However, as I've already stated, you seem to be the only one who thinks there is a problem with the LGBT forum. Rather than get bogged down, I suggest you just take part in the forums and see if you find them helpful to your needs and participate in the social aspects of the site.

I've been doing that too, but I have to say, it's extremely difficult when just about anything I might write about violates at least one of the rules.

There's just not much of life left.

There are thousands of members on this site who manage to post quite well without breaking any rules. Rest assured that if you do break any rules that the moderators will be at hand to advise you. Wink

Your question and subsequent responses in this thread do raise one question in my mind: Are you homophobic? Please bear in mind that posts attacking gay people are not allowed.

Yes, of course I am. Isn't everyone? (starts humming "everyone's a little bit racist" from "Avenue Q"). (oops, at least two rule violations there).

But I'm no more homophobic than I am hetrophobic, biphobic, polyphobic, monophobic, transphobic, or cisphobic. (wow, 7 rule violations in that sentence).

Are you fetish phobic? (oops, there's another).

I'm seriously curious. How do you even hold a conversation here without violating rules constantly?

To avoid violating any rules do what every other person that hasn't been banned does, which is:

*Love thy Aspergian and all others which reside on WrongPlanet
*Avoid coating your prejudices as a pseudo-intellectual topic up for discussion when they are not. Why are they not up for discussion? Duh, they violate the rules.
*If you cannot help but air your views despite warnings and rules being laid out, then do not post at all or focus your attention on another board where you can talk about things which won't offend others such as the Games section or Getting to Know Each Other.
*If you continue to air your prejudiced views and coat them as smart political stances then all I can say is it's in the hands of Moderators and those who report to them, and it was nice knowing you (well, that's a bit of a lie).

If you think the LGBTQ forum is sexist and fetishy (what the fudge I don't even know...) then by your basis, this aspergers/autism form is discriminating against every other disability, learning difficulty, mental disorder, and whatever else affects people in their day-to-day life.

Your logic is extremely faulty. You are clearly just a homophobe trying to cover it up.

You don't have to click on the LGBTQ forum, that is your choice, and your choice only.

Go have a cup of tea or something and have a good think about why you're so scared of gays and trans. We're not diseased, otherwise it'd be a case of "sorry boss, can't come into work today, still queer" Cool

You want a place to talk about your issues with aspergers/autism, so why don't these people have a right to talk about their confusion with their sexuality, the discrimination and the bullying they get, a safe place where they can talk about how a young trans man can't bind his chest tumours down because he still lives with his parents.

They are entitled to have a safe place to talk.

I'm not afraid. And I happen to concur.

My complaint is that I believe the rules, as stated, prohibit your goal. I would like to see them amended to allow for it.

I'd also like to see them amended to allow for my own sexuality and many other portions of my life that I'm currently prohibited from discussing on this board.
