I am in an exceptionally foul mood today because, for the next three weeks, I'll have to waste two whole hours of my week playing football at school.
Due to my poor coordination, I've always been terrible at football and one of the perks of being a girl is that no one will judge you purely on your athletic ability, but boys are so bloody competitive that if someone makes one simple mistake -in a meaningless game played in P.E class- they receive no end of verbal abuse. Even the few who try to be encouraging irritate me with their insulting remarks such as "come on... you have to try". Grrrr! I always try my very best to participate in that repulsive game but no matter how hard I try, they still criticize me.
Who the hell sits in their office thinking "Hmm... two spare hours... Shall we allow them some extra time to study? No, that would be completely illogical! Let's force them to waste their time playing an unenjoyable game that probably won't ever be of any assistance to them in life! It makes perfect sense!"
Many people on the spectrum have poor motor skills/coordination and I think that forcing us to play competitive sports which for us are perpetual gateways for bullying is complete and utter discrimination. If an Autistic wishes to participate in competitive sports - good for them, but people on the spectrum should always be offered a choice in the matter. _________________ Always

| Ah that's terrible. I used to hate football so much at school and I know what you mean about it being so competitive, it just makes it even worse that they treat it so seriously. I had a bad reputation at school as the only goal I scored the whole time was an own goal! Fortunately I had a P.E. teacher, who despite also having a sadistic streak, used to let me go running instead, although I was rubbish at that as well and one time got beaten up by strangers for no apparent reason. |

Physical fitness is important.
Maybe you can play to your strengths. Line backers don't require much coordination, just prevent the other person from getting to the QB. |

Think she means football as in European football. Not American. _________________ In the end, all you can hope for is the love you felt to equal the pain you've gone through. |

I play American football for my school team, and I've played soccer in youth clubs since i was like 7, so I love both games and am pretty decent.
I dont get why people with As stereotypically hate sports.
Just cuz we suck lol. _________________ "I watched a change in you, It's like you never had wings, now you feel so alive" |

I was never good at soccer.
I did however find success at defender since all you had to do was kick the ball hard back to your offensive players on the other side. |

I agree, physical fitness is important but my argument is with the way in which I have to keep physically fit. I'd much rather lift weights or go jogging. You know, something that doesn't make me look like a simpleton.

Yesterday, after school, I approached my P.E teacher and asked him to explain the rules of EUROPEAN football but apparently, because I'm a boy, I should already know this and he shouldn't have to waste his time explaining things things that I should already know.
So, today, the incessant criticism and patronization continued. One thing that really irritated me was that when someone criticized the referee, he said "You cannot criticize the referee. Everybody makes mistakes, but as long as they try their best, you should never criticize them. It's called human respect."
Well then, it seems that for individuals on the spectrum, this "human respect" doesn't apply. He told me that I wasn't trying hard enough and that I wasn't showing the appropriate ammount of enthusiasm for his subject. As I've already stated, I always try my best in P.E but people constantly criticize me. I enjoy some aspects of P.E such as swimming, muscular endurance and fitness but I HATE competitive sports so much. _________________ Always

| Wow..... that sucks. I failed at football(European, soccer American) when I was little. As a girl, their is a bit more leniency, and your life doesn't depend upon your athleticness. Now, when I have spare time in PE I play with the guys a little, and it's much more relaxed, a ton less competitive. I am a runner, and sometimes I feel totally competitive determined-to-win with that, but running is much more straight-forward, and easier. |
