Has anybody here been put on Strattera/atomoxine? I'm currently on it and trying to get off it...it makes me tired, sluggish, and I have horrible mood swings that I didn't before I started.

Get off it! The primary motive for prescriptions is profit!

Oh, and make sure to send a letter to the Strattera people telling them about the mood swings and the sluggishness and tiredness and stuff. I've never actually been on Strattera, but I've seen the commercial numerous times and they list, like, 6 side effects (I think three of them are increased appitite, tiredness, and losing weight).

So, I agree with gwynfryn on this one. Get off Strattera! Get a friend to make icky-tasting things that look like them out of some type of food or something to help you get off of them!

My stepmom is a former psych. nurse, so it's pretty hard to get away with not taking meds...so my best bet is to plead my case with my doctors. I so far have found warnings that Strattera and Prozac are not to be mixed. (I'm on the maxium dosage of both right now). Besides, why the **** does somebody with Asperger's need to be on ADHD medication? It's so stupid...

My oldest son was on it; and we stopped it after one month or so, it made him moody and aggressive.

The stuff made me suicidal. And that was just after the first dose. Of course we didn't know about my AS then (I was only diagnosed with ADHD at the time).

Edit: I think this is a very old thread.

It is true that ADHD meds can make you feel in the dumps at times, but they do NOT make you suicidal, you are in control of your own thoughts, medication cannot fill your head with bad thoughts, only you can do that.

Funny. I had suicidal thoughts when I was on Adderall.
My meltdowns became increasingly severe and when i had them I was more compelled to think about suicide than I would have had I not been on the stuff, I think.

Maybe you should stick with what you know. It CAN fill your head with such thoughts! It's called CHEMICAL depression! That is DIFFERENT from the regular depression YOU speak of.

Tony Atwood estimated 75% of those with aspergers have features consistent with inattention and/or hyperactivity.

And studies have demonstrated persons on the autism spectrum can benefit form medications used to treat ADD/ADHD. Despite the fact they do not have the same neurological basis.

Thats and example of extreme black or white thinking.

Actually, strattera is not a stimulant like other ADD drugs, so it has different effects from the better known ones. Its a selective norepenephrine reuptake inhibitor.

For the original poster:

I am on strattera and found that the side effects wore off after about a month and that it worked really well after that. How strong of a dosage do they have you on? I weigh about 190lbs and they started me on 40mg.

Mankind knowledge is still not enough to create drugs that will fix our minds, except those few that really lack at our brains...
Most drug are really madness.

The problem is when people reject drugs outright for themselves and think that applies to all others. Drugs have proven utility.

I'm on this drug, I'm on 40mg. It has helped me to focus as I have ADHD as well as aspergers, but I don't take it all the time because I forget. It prevents me from having as many meltdowns. My psychiatrist says I should be on 60mg but as 40 works she wont change it. To the person who said this was about profits, I'm 17, I live in the UK, I'm in full-time education, therefore the drug is on the NHS, which means I don't pay a penny.
