Ah yes I have! It was probably that book which sparked off the journey I had to WP, so I have to thank it. While now some bits seem exaggerated and Chris doesn't have any character development, the book inspired me to have my own Aspie character in my story.

i don't read a lot of fiction and especially short stories, but it is quite a good book. it is easy to read and i enjoyed the way that the author tried to make the reader understand the lead characters' motivation to do certain things that got him in trouble with his parents and that without being overtly sentimental, the ending was a positive/optomistic one.
i am glad that the book was so popular. i want the general public to read, learn and hopefully think more about AS and autism though it will be a long time before they actually start to understand us well enough not to descriminate against us. |

It's basically about a 15 year old boy in a British town with HFA (not AS as said in interviews). The book is actually written by the character Chris (the author pretends to be his character), and this is shown because Chris labels the chapters in Prime Numbers. The formula is that he spends a chapter talking about what's going on, and another about himself and his interests, then back to the story, then to his interests... you get the idea.
The actual storyline shows how different Chris is to everyone else and his attention to minute detail and his photographic memory. He gets into trouble a lot of the time and the eventful story is only really made eventful because of the choices Chris makes or because of his forced reactions and logical thinking.
Being an early book that fully explores AS and HFA, there is no character development and Chris doesn't change at all in the book, because his way of thinking is so different. However as a result, he seems blunt to those who know AS and Autism well (us). But because the intended audience are NTs, the character development isn't required. The book's purpose is to delve into the mind of someone who thinks differently from NTs.
It is interesting to note that Haddon spent a certain amount of time living with Spectrumites to get their habits and their thinking processes down.

| I loved this book and especially related to when he had to ride the metro (or subway or whatever it was called there). My first time alone on a metro was similar, but I got used to it. |
