Adam Larsen’s documentary, “Neurotypical”, explores autism from the point of view of autistic people ourselves. “Neurotypical” has its US broadcast premiere on Monday, July 29, at 10 p.m. (check local listings), as part of the 26th season of the award-winning PBS series POV (Point of View). The film streams on POV’s website, http://pbs.org/pov/neurotypical , from July 30 to Aug. 29.

Thanks for that info! I can't wait to see it-- I will DVR it. I do hope they will show the struggles honestly though, and not just the "feel good" stuff.

Oh they are not just doing the "feel good" stuff. After filming me for about 12 hours on 3 separate occasions, and me not once bringing up relationships, as they are not my focus at all when it comes to autism, I made the mistake of asking my husband if he wanted to say anything when he got home from work. We were almost done with the filming. Too bad. Now most of my part, is about the marriage, and the promotional material was awful about it until I got hold of PBS and insisted that they remove it. Thankfully PBS listened. I can't wait for it to be over. Like maybe the year 2014 or 2015 when everyone has forgotten all about it. But you can judge for yourself. I like some of the other parts. I have no feeling of "yay, I'm on TV" or anything like that. I just wish it would all go away. Thanks for reading.

An autism documentary featuring yourself has to be good!
If you want everyone to forget about it, then do another documentary to surpass this one Smile

Thanks! I wanted to watch the stream, but if the show embarrases you, I won't.

I tried to locate on my local PBS channel it seems is not going be aired here. I think such documentary should be made requirement for the HR people to watch so they can be more aware. Is there any chance of having watch on the Internet.

One can only say "It has to be good" if one has not had the experience. It does not "have" to be good to be on TV. Make your own choice about whether or not to watch it but please do not dismiss what I have written, which is how I feel, which is not "good." Thank you.

Paula I think you may mistaken my words. I would like to watch it but Nuerotypical seems to be on select PBS stations which my area PBS station opted not to air it. I was wondering if there way to watch entirety on the Net not TV

Whitney- my apologies. I was trying to respond to Ken G., I think (unless I am getting the names of posters mixed up visually, which sometimes I do). He wrote "An autism documentary featuring yourself has to be good! If you want everyone to forget about it, then do another documentary to surpass this one." I am having a bit of trouble replying in-line to the correct poster. Sorry. I saw what you wrote, too. Thank you for your response.

You may well find that some of the cyberlockers/newsgroups/torrent sites have capped it.

No, it doens't have to be good. They can cut and hack and excerpt to their hearts' content, until what one said is NOT the message that the public hears.

I'll be watching, but I'll be watching alone. Late at night.

Or maybe with Hubby.

It MIGHT be good.

Then again, it might open his eyes to exactly why, for the past few years, I have felt and acted like a hunted animal.

See what the film's director, Adam Larsen, says about his motivation for making this film:

Instead of acting like a hunted animal, why not act like a hunter? Hunt those who threaten the happiness of Autistics?

About that closest to that you're going to get from me, I'm afraid, is me buying a copy of that gif you've got there as a bumper sticker and fantasizing about plastering it on the back of my van.

I'd love to be that brave, but I'm not. Somebody threatens my family, and I curl up like a pillbug.

I wouldn't make much of a hunter...

...or a poster child.

Good luck to those of you that have the balls to run the risks, and the image to make a success of it. Maybe someday, my grandkids will stand on your shoulders.
