Hi my 15yrs son dx ASD, ADHD I think now is presenting with Tourettes. I am looking for information around managing and medications. I always thought his bizarre behaviors were ASD related.

A number of professionals have suggested so I have been monitoring and see a lot of traits. Any good website with updated info would be brill.

Is there any let up for him but this might explain his very high anxiety levels in school whilst he is on medication. The meds get him pass the front door but that's about it. Everyday is problematic for him its a constant battle. Now possibly a new dx?

These are the behaviors my son experiences: Growls, kicking, biting, hand movements whilst making noises with his mouth it seems like a fighting movement and sound effects to go with them. Shouts out phrases and points his fingers, puts his index finger into my face very annoying, facial grimace, tapping fingers and feet, shoulder tics but these seem to have gone.

I get annoyed with him, to be honest at times I think he is doing to annoy me because he laughs. When we do talk he says he cant stop himself that he has to do it. I don't want to be getting annoyed but its constant. I would like to understand so that I can also manage him without feeling he is deliberately trying to get a reaction from me.

Any info I would be very grateful and thank you in advance

Have you considered the possibility that the meds might be causing the new behaviors?

Hi Willard

These behaviors have been presenting for a long time I really thought it was just odd rituals. My son also OCD that is associated with autism not atypical OCD. My son has changed his meds he is taking sertraline (zoloft) and ritalin. He was meds free for a school term but asked to go back on because his anxiety levels. He started with sertraline for his anxiety then ritalin was added he has tried all other adhd meds. His sister has used Ritalin she has ADD and very successful no issues.

I know tourettes linked to ritalin but he had these traits before starting this new medication. I prefer him off medication but he really struggles. Self harming, suicide ideation were present more frequently without meds. School is a very difficult place for him but he wants to be there I offered all alternatives.

Tourettes was mentioned at a hospital appointment to be honest I am tired and I know my son is exhausted so I ignored it. But I kept thinking about it, so started to look it up and he has a lot of traits. I was hoping to find a website that explains tourettes as clearly as possible and goes into the tics and explains in detail.

I think the motor tics in school are troubling him and he is struggle to control them. He said that he can't stop he would be very embarrassed if his peers pick up on it. He has freedom to leave classroom when needed because of anxiety and panic attacks. The school have also been very difficult to deal with but next year will have completed secondary school. We will have to look at universities but that would mean him living independently.

It feels never ending and I am the parent he has to live with it all. I am always looking for ways to help him manage but its a very harsh journey. On a positive note he his a very accomplished footballer and Athlete (sprinter, long jump) and he loves it.
