There is no other way of doing it - you need to use an image hosting service like Photobucket. There are plenty of others too.
In Photobucket (and probably all the others), each image is automatically assigned some text which when copy/pasted into a post here will correctly embed that image - nothing else is required.

The reason for using an image hosting service is that images would otherwise need to be uploaded to WP (and other similar sites) which would require some massive and expensive storage capabilities. It's also much more efficient to post links here which point to the image stored elsewhere.

It's technically possible to source an image from your own PC but that requires some deep technical tweaking and worse, if not done with great care, could open up your machine to all sorts of nastiness. Some ISPs also won't allow their customers to set up machines as a server (which is effectively what you'd be doing) and can take steps to block such activities.
Of course there is the other problem that when you switch your PC off, your images will vanish from wherever they're being displayed...
