It's not really about predicting. It's mostly just what they think will happen if people disobey God. The only thing I wonder is why the whirlwind so many times? Sow the wind reap the whirlwind. It just strikes me as odd.

Because he's a sky god. His winds divide the sea of reeds for Moses. His wind or spirit is on the face of the deep. He resides on mountains. His voice shakes trees and the ground like thunder. He is the "rider on the clouds". He uses whirlwinds, flying cherub steeds, magical sky chariots, etc.

You're right- the middle east isn't renowned for whirlwinds. That's why they are seen as mystical and recorded in the Bible as opposed to, say, "sunny weather". Any sort of "extremes" of weather were seen as an expression of God's power- that's how the story of Noah's ark came about. It's a dry country, very little rain; lots of rain= God is angry/ expressing His power. Whirlwinds (extreme wind strength)= God is angry/ expressing His power.

I see some of these Christian broadcasting networks talk about this biblical stuff and they pull out a picture of an Apache attack helicopter and say that is what the bible was predicting. Or some cop walking around in full riot gear with gas mask and stuff and somehow that is a prophesy from the Bible. These people are fruitier than characters on cereal boxes.

Not forgetting the earliest Christian prediction that Jesus signalled the start of The Resurrection and that it would happen in their lifetime, a biblical fact that contemporary Christians like to gloss over. As to the OP all manner of uncommon weather events happen all over the world. We had a measurable tornado in VIctoria (australia) last year. More to the point read about the BIble in its entirety and then you will realise that it cannot be taken literally or as an historical document. Heck much of it has falsified authorship at falsified times, yet you want to cherry pick individual paragraphs to show its voracity
