My name is Alex, and after a lot of research and introspection, I've come to the conclusion that I might be autistic. At the moment, I'm not in a position where I can seek professional diagnosis, so I'm looking for support where I can get it.

A little about me:

I'm 22 years old, just about to graduate from college. I've always had a lot of difficulty with people, even though I like being around them. I take everything literally and don't notice when people are trying to suggest things or hint at things - something that crashed my last romantic relationship. Facial expressions feel like a foreign language. I don't tend to make them myself, it feels fake and weird. Not the only stuff I've noticed, just the bits that I've gotten in trouble for.

In my free time, I watch documentaries and play video games (Final Fantasy XIV is my current fixation).

Sorry for the briefness, I'm not super great at introductions.

Welcome to WP. :)

I don't want to sound abrupt, but do you have any of the other sorts of symptoms autistics often experience, like sensory issues, stimming, or obsessive interests? As well, do you have issues relating to other people, like putting yourself in their shoes? I'm just wondering because if you do, then those are definite signs that you may just be on the spectrum. If you experience any of them, they may be good things to bring up when you go for your diagnosis. ;)

I have all of those things, I just neglected to put them in the original post because I panic slightly on intro posts.

I wear earplugs generally during the day to keep out the noise of college because it causes me a lot of anxiety. I get the obsessive interests, but they're always short lived (this is a problem sometimes if said interests cost money). I'm just teaching myself to stim again after years and years of that "quiet hands" BS and being yelled at for flapping.

I do have major issues relating to other people. I'm not good at putting myself in other people's shoes, which is a problem in college when we get assignments like "write from the perspective of [person]..." because that's pretty much impossible. I also suck at things like authorial intent and figurative language. Makes my Early Christianity class buckets o' fun, because the Bible is nothing but figurative language. At least the history part is incredibly fun.

Oh ok. :) Admittedly, I don't know why I felt like asking. But if you didn't want to answer, then hey, that's fine. :D

I did want to answer, it's ok. I'm just really bad at spontaneously saying things. I much prefer when people ask me questions that I can provide direct, concrete answers to, like you just did :)

Gotcha. I'm kind of the opposite, since I usually do NOT like being asked questions at all, at least not unexpectedly.
