I received an email recently from a woman whose great-grandsons are autistic. She wants to know if ASAN or any other group provides funds for the care of autistic kids, as they are, among other things, trying to raise money to purchase a vinyl fence so the kids can play in their yard. The mother is apparently raising the two boys and a 1 year old girl on her own. To my knowledge, ASAN doesn't have programs like that, and I am not about to refer them to Autism Speaks. Sadly, though, I'm guessing this is someone who views autism as a disease, since the wording makes me think they believe I'm an NT running a support group rather than an Autistic. She knew to contact me from a list of support groups on my local library website (I had attempted to set up an ASAN chapter but it failed to take hold, and I 'resigned' from the group after a year of no interest in my local area).

Any information would be helpful.
