As much as I despise the FDA, I hope the ASAN succeed into convincing their superintendents to do a conscientious thing for once and put an end to these contingent aversives, as-well as the pervasiveness unleashed by the JRC. It's the only significant way for those forcibly subjected to their malfeasances can be emancipated.

???

My grandfather once asked me, "Why use a big word when a diminutive one will do?"

Because that is what many autistics tend to do. Sometimes, we don't remember the diminutive word, while we easily remember the big word.

However... when several of them are misused, we have exceeded the bounds of intellectual discourse.

AND I wonder if this is an autism thing... I would like to see citations or studies on it (not accusing you of making anything up or stating you need to provide links... just curious now.

I can't find studies on it, but many on-line articles mention it. For example:

I have a very formal and unusually distinctive way of expressing myself derived from my verbally eloquent mind and inherent concepts of thought, It has indeed been postulated by clinical psychologists that this trait correlates with that of people on the spectrum (the above link purporting this exemplifies it), but not everyone will be endowed with this linguistic ability.

IMHO, it's a good thing. Listening to people use "big words" increases ones own vocabulary. I find it refreshing to hear people use vocabulary above an elementary school level.

I hope they ban electroshock "therapy". It's cruel and inhumane, and no one should ever have to be subjected to it.

Let me restructure the query... why use large words incorrectly when smaller ones, used correctly will get the point across? The post that I commented on was grammatically flawed with the words that were chosen...

I speak incredibly formally, and have a very large vocabulary... but the point of communication is to make oneself understood... and the burden of communication falls on the shoulders of the communicator...

Also, after reading up on it... the experts have stated (without formal studies) that the spread of vocabulary and large word usage among NTs and Autistic Spectrum Individuals is almost identical... i.e. it is a human trait... not an autistic trait.

Feralucce; I think the question "Why hurt peoples feelings over their word usage?" is a more important one.

My intent is not to hurt someone's feelings, but I actually had to have a consensus from the people in our apartment to understand what was being communicated.

If word usage is incorrect, then communication has not been achieved...
