Why is every choice in the profile area about Asperger's? Ittt says Diagnosed with Asperger's, Asperger's Undiagnosed, Not sure of unspecified disorder and therefore presumably Asperger's, Other Disorder, or NT. there is NOTHING on the list for autistic people, and stop having such prejudice like an autistic human cannot type or talk or use a message board or have a job or something. If this message board is for autistic and Asperger's then "autistic" NEEDS to be on the list!

The infrastructure of the website (i.e. whatever hosting/coding program they use) makes it very difficult to make changes to the website; they won't be able to "fix" it overnight. The owner of the website is currently in the process of re-vamping the entire website and moving everything unto a different hosting program or whatnot; more options should be available then, as this complaint has come up several times before. My hope is that the diagnosis field is text box (much like the signature, interests, or Custom Rank) so that people can be as specific or vague as they so choose; until then, many people use their signatures as the place to disclose their diagnosis/es.

I didn't say anything about specific or vague. There is a huge prejudice online about any information posted anywhere that autistic people cannot NOT be mentally ret*d. Maybe many autistic people are but there are PLENTY who are JUST AS UNNOTICEABLE that they have any kind of disorder/diagnosis on your first meeting other then a probable misuse of language (as in basics, like grammar - the type that Aspies often get mad when people do), as people with Asperger's Syndrome are. It's not vague or specific but if a message board is for both autistic people and people with Asperger's Syndrome then both should be available! (List of other things, like Borderline, could potentially be available but do not NEED to because this isn't a message board focused on them.)

I did not say anything about overnight! If the programmers are already changing around the whole board then that will make it easier for them to add this in! No website change is likely to be done overnight! But I am glad that the thing is inconsideration and the reason it's upsetting is because you would think a message board where some autistic people are typing might not have such prejudice. Most people including Asperger's people that run websites always seem to think that autistic people cannot do things like have their own job without help or go to school without using the "special services".

I did not know they were re-doing the website and I did not know there was already a topic about this issue. My own profile of "unsure" will remain the same but it angers me every time I see something like "the difference between Asperger's an autism is that autistic people cannot function/live by themselves/have a job and Aspies usually can". When in reality the main difference is personality. Some things like thinking and understanding are more sever in autistic people, but of the actual differences that do not exist in most autistic people or in most Asperger's people, the main difference is personality and certain ways of thinking such as "being polite" or something. My own post sounds autistic I am aware, it's because my boyfriend is autistic and I have a different thing where I absorb certain traits of those I am around - in this case, grammatical incorrectness and use of words that could be picked on without it being wrong to do so.

The lengthiness of it is my own.

I apologize if I had insinuated that you did; the "specific or vague" comment arose from my own desires for the "Diagnosis" option.

I actually agree with your sentiment that individuals with so-termed "classic" autism (or any other type of autism, for that matter) are just as capable as individuals with Asperger's and understand your exasperation with individuals who hold the "autistic=incapable" viewpoint . I am not sure why the aforementioned diagnostic labels were omitted as a profile option in the first place, though it may not be out of the aforementioned attitude. It could simply be (though I did not join until 2012, when the website was already much as it currently is) that Wrong Planet was originally intended to be a relatively small website focused on the relatively small scope of Asperger's Syndrome and that, as both website membership and the owner's involvement in the autistic community grew, the website grew to encompass more of the autistic community, though I emphasis again that this is just speculation on my part.
