A little over 5 years ago, I had my first (and hopefully last) psychosis which led to my Bipolar Dx. At the time I knew nothing about what Autism really is. Looking back, it seems that my psychosis was preceded by kind of a meltdown of my executive function. I remember feeling kind of paralyzed and distressed, but without any crazy thoughts. A friend lashed out at me on Facebook and I wanted to address her, but couldn't get it together. This caused me a great deal of stress. Then, I spiraled into psychosis.

I was just wondering if anyone has had more pronounced executive function issues preceding a psychosis? And were they triggered by an emotional event?

This weekend I had major executive function issues again. My work has agreed to pay for my testing and I found my self feeling overwhelmed at having that opportunity and about truly coming to terms with myself as a differently-abled, sometimes impaired individual. The executive functioning fail really bothered me and then I decided that I was just going to accept it and not pressure myself to get much done over the weekend. It is passing.

I almost wonder if, had I just accepted the executive functioning problem, could I have avoided the psychosis 5 years ago?

Any thoughts?

I fell into a psychotic depression many years ago over a breakup. I just kind of shut down in the ending states of the relationship & things I wanted to say & do just wouldn't come out rite & we kept having arguments & I got controlling which caused things to fall apart. I just kind of broke down & wasn't sure what was really going on or what was made up or caused by my f#cked up mind.

I was on facebook for about two days before I freaked out and tried to shut down my account. But no, you can't delete yourself from it. All you can do is hide your profile. I just can't cope with the insensitivity on there.

I did psycho-educational testing for school, that confirmed my dx of Schizoaffective disorder, a psychotic disorder, and was told that the Schizoaffective really affected my ability to perform well on certain tests. Like it was affecting my cognitive abilities, and that this is natural with psychotic disorders. That my testing came back as what you would expect the cognitive difficulties to look like of someone with a psychotic disorder. So I'm not sure it's a coincidence that you feel that way before psychotic episodes.

Preceding my psychosis at 14, I had increasingly challenging behaviors and I would get really lethargic if I tried to concentrate on school work.

I think this period where you get worse leading up to the development of psychosis is called the prodrome.
