I talk to people online all the time and for the most part I consider them "friends." However, I guess a lot of NTs do not feel that way. In order to be a friend you have to regularly hang out with that person in flesh and blood? A persons personality does not change whether in person or online. (of course its a lot easier for me to interpret/communicate in writing). This one guy basically told me that I didn't even know him and his friends were weird towards me almost acting like we had never spoke before. He really made me feel like a creep and I was deeply hurt by someone who was once sweet towards me. I dont usually use labels anyways. Thoughts?

From what I've seen people are divided on this, actually. On other forums NTs make online friends all the time, but there will always be people who just don't consider talking to be all there is to a friendship.

Internet stigma probably plays a role, too, similar to how people think everyone will lie to you about who they are online but be honest offline.

I have an Aspie friend that I met on this site. We used to be emotionally close, until she went to college, and started hanging out with "real" people.
Personally, it doesn't matter if someone's 3 feet, or 3000 miles from me, a good friend is a good friend.
But, to some people, if you're not close enough to touch, you might as well be a stranger. Some people are just that shallow.

Yeah I hate this to. I hate the term "real friends" Like I'm not real. :'(

I can get deeply connected to people from chatting online. I view them the same as people I know in my area. in my area I think is a better term or local friends. its not limited to just nts. aspies will do this too.

perhaps that is why people will screw over online friends cause heck they aren't real people or real friends.

Depends.

Rather than the online/offline matter, I rather ask whether that person is a reliable versatile friend or just a contextual one (aka. a business partner or someone you share a hobby with but don't talk to outside of that hobby).
