A couple nights ago I heard my parents making jokes during cocktail hour. One if them was that dad did not notice mom reading in bed. When mom replied, dad said "I never notice you in bed." Then they both cracked up. This joke confused me. Could you explain it?

I don't know. Maybe it's just something private between them.

What's cocktail hour anyway?

Maybe she never 'goes to bed' with him (if you know what I mean).

Or maybe she does it all of the time, but he doesnt respond (if you know what I mean).

One or the other of them has some kind of complaint. But atleast they both can laugh about it.

To babybird: "cocktails" are mixed drinks. If thats what you're asking. His parents like to knock back a few when Dad gets home from work. Hense "cocktail hour".

Maybe the simple fact that your mum is often very silent and your dad doesn't notice her and acts as if she were not there? And then he gets startled when she talks?

Looks like no one here can understand the joke. Can you go and ask your parents for us why it's funny?
