More bad press

Oh, misogyny now. Who here hates women? Last time I checked I don't hate women, misogyny isn't normal for AS people, what rot.

I took a several year hiatus from this forum because of the rampant misogyny.
This place does not seem to have changed. People are demanding apologies yet if certain behaviours are tolerated and condoned then the forum gets a bad rep. It is not the first time that WP has been in the news for the.. "unfortunate" behaviour by a couple of it's members. If certain attitudes are tolerated and encouraged that may effect the actions of those members in the real world. WP has a culture of it's own and it is up to all members to make it a more positive one.

reports care about storie and editors care about headlines, the media never cares about the people there stories hurtSo basically they'll look at it and have a good chuckle to themselves.

I'm really not comfortable answering specifically and I fear it would get deleted anyway. WP has been in the news before a few years ago now.. someone was posting.. "disturbing" things and it turned out he wasn't just trolling.

if you were to substitute "one race" for "NT", and "another race" for "autism", would you not have a pretty good working definition of racism? different things can be similar in some ways. oppression is as oppression does.

Are you referring to William Freund?

Given the nature of the complaint, the knowledge of the site displayed by that commenter, and the name they posted under, I'm pretty sure that's a certain disgruntled L&D regular taking advantage of the soap box, not some random person that happened to stumble in here.

If you put it that way, then perhaps it's worth a shot. I'll make it as diplomatic as possible.

Actually, Cenk gets this one pretty right IMHO, and I don't usually care much for him.

Sometimes I try to read to fast- I'll give that. Perhaps I missed it.
...
Bad press comes up constantly about one forum or another pretty frequently, the mentions of Asperger's as well as WrongPlanet in the Post article are basically that- mentions.
I admin'd a [support] forum in the past that was reported about in a heavily circulated paper, in a not so positive light. But... ultimately what are you going to do but forge on, as you were, take advantage of the traffic boost and just be on guard for the possiblity of more trolls in the meantime?
It sucked that like 70% of what was reported was skewed BS initially associated directly with the site [I used to be on] but it ended up being a real boost in the end. Any kind of attempted recourse will likely just be skewed.
No win there.

I don't like the implications of that stating "No one can say anything bad about people with a form of Autism!" I've found people claiming their or their child's Autism means they shouldn't be told they're wrong, and they didn't realize they were doing anything bad. It gives NTs reason to avoid us, because what is advocated is having a form of Autism means your a angel and if you do any harm you didn't understand. It's infantilizing people with Autism, and worse making people wary about being around someone with Autism who can't be held accountable for anything.
It's one of the main reasons "entitled" Aspies want to avoid LFA. It's not about Autism, it's that anyone would prefer to avoid people who can't be counted on to be responsible. The probem is Autism advocates advocated "I have Autism!" should be the response to any issue. Can't help not touching others, "I have Autism!" That's not how things should work, if you have issues with self control you need to apologize if you disturb others. I realize I've gone off topic, but I really tire of the notion that advocacy means demanding unconditional acceptance from others, and that everyone must sympathize with the aspects of Autism that tramples on people's personal borders.
This man did a bad thing, and when you do bad things you need to be held accountable for them. It only reinforces the stereotype that people on the Autism spectrum are childlike when our response to one of our own doing wrong is, "BUT HE HAS AASSSPPPEERRGGGERRRS!"
instead of respecting he screwed up and should face the music. Or has Autism advocacy become about demanding society respond to our mistakes like toddler who made a boo boo? I'd rather have my dignity, than play into the "forever child" stereotype of Autism. It's part of
growing up, learning responsibility. Why insist society must treat us like fragile children because we were born differently?

Uh oh, you broke a rule, provoking members.
I remember mentioning him years back and this got me into lot of trouble and I was told I was provoking members by bringing up a incident that may upset members. But perhaps that rule changed.
