(note: this thread is sorta crude)

Like, I frequently wet the bed during my childhood, almost several times a week. It was pretty annoying because I'd wake up soaked in you-know-what and it felt pretty nasty. It cost my parents extra money just to wash my sheets, and I actually had to wear diapers on sleepovers or camping days. And when I went to a hotel, I always slept on a sleeping bag while my sisters and parents got the beds because there's the risk I could wet the bed (and since there's usually two beds, my two sisters share one). Not only that, I had problems with erm...#2 as well when I was young. Sometimes, I'd go to the bathroom too early and wait there for ten minutes or so while I struggled with constipation...other times, I'd go to the bathroom TOO LATE, which sucked even more (heck, I still have trouble with timing today, but luckily it's much better now).

I continued wetting the bed until I turned 15, which I'm really glad the embarrassment ended there. Still, though, I'll stop at a restroom desperate to pee and have to wait several minutes, or other times I'll stain my boxers. Ugh. It makes me feel like I'm still five. My Autism is fairly mild, too, but does anyone else have these sort of problems?

I don't wet the bed but I do have trouble holding it in at times and might wet myself.

Not the same as you but still have issues.

I have an OCD-level addiction to liquids. I always need to be fully hydrated and full of water and stuff like that.

But I also have a lot of trouble at night.

At night I am very jumpy and OCD.

I lay down, get up, go to the toilet, get a drink of some kind, go back to lie down, get up, go to the toilet, get a drink of some kind, go back to lie down and try and go to sleep.

I do this pattern too much, every 30 seconds pretty much. It's annoyed/kept awake my family...:(

I have a slight problem with having to make sure my bladders completely empty when I go to the toilet. I can be there 10-20 minutes and have to go before every lesson in have for fear of needing to go in the lesson. I have never wet the bed but did once during day in year 1 and that's when it all started. Slightly think its OCD myself.

99% of my tardies come from going to the boys room (the number of which is very disproportionate to the number of girl's rooms) right before 2nd period. the teacher there had a policy that if you go to the restroom during class, you have to stay after class for twice as long.

she gave out these bathroom passes (6) recently but i don't know if them means repealing that policy or not. :?

I'm 16, and I've wet the bed my entire life, albeit less and less as I get older. It's only a couple times a week for me. The best advice I can give anyone who has an issue like this is to be open about it. Despite what you might think, your real friends aren't going to judge you for something you can't help! Every friend I've had has known about my issue and none of them have made fun of me for it, even though I have to wear pull ups to bed.

In fact, I have a friend who is two years older than me, also has Aspergers, and has the same problem. I think it might be an ASD thing to an extent? I read a study somewhere that said people on the spectrum are deep sleepers, so I assume this has something to do with it.

Weirdly enough, I inherited my bed-wetting from my grandfather--who doesn't seem autistic at all...

You can inherit bedwetting? Weird!

I've always been masterful at holding it in, but every once in a blue moon I might partially wet the bed, usually waking up during. I don't know if it has anything to do with ASD, it's likely whenever I go to sleep feeling really stressed out.

I don't believe I had any bedwetting issues as a kid, though I do know I had to be potty-trained twice as a toddler. Apparently the first one just didn't take. :P

IKR? It must be some weird recessive gene.

What actually causes it? Why does it seem to be apparent among us quirky aspies? I think we just have a weak bladder. I have better control of it now, but I still go to the bathroom a little too late...

What I love about this forum is that I can be weird as I want and everyone accepts it :D

No I don't, I'm now a master of holding it, but I used to wet the bed up until I was 11 or 12.

when approaching the restroom, i think i may let it go too early and wet before i even get to the waste receptacle (urinal or whatever). anyone else have trouble 'waiting" like this?

Yeah. Sometimes, when you feel like you need to go...you really gotta go. Don't worry, it gets better as you grow older.

I'm the same as you so one things sure : you're not alone. But I don't think it has anything to do with whether you're an aspie or not it's just one of those things ...

Prepare for potty talk:

For some reason, I don't know exactly when I have to go to the bathroom. I know when it's coming, but usually I'll sit and wait, and sometimes I feel an urge just to finish what I'm doing. Before I know it, #1 is trickling down my leg. We aspies can not only be unaware of our environment (unless we're some weird form of hyper-observation), but we'll sometimes be unaware of what's going on with our bodies. My Dad works with mentally handicapped people, and one time one of them ripped off their toe nail and felt pretty much no pain.

But I'm getting off-topic. Sometimes, we tend to forget about shaving, cleaning up wounds, and sometimes when to use the bathroom. We're not as concerned about hygiene as neurotypicals are. If it becomes a problem, you should talk to your boyfriend about it, just don't pester him too much. Eventually, he'll learn.
