I recently watched interview with old communist who still think Communist is great.

That Poland get 3rd place in 1978 and 1982, and we Poles very god science, because Polish soccer players cannot contract to foreign clubs for filthy British Pounds, Western German Marks or Dollars :D The same think was for scientist.

This communist said we now should introduce law barring our University graduates leaving Poland, giving the fact that Higher Education in Poland is mostly provided by Public Universities for free.

What the government is saying to graduates is that they can't have their cake and eat it since it is not really their cake to start with as they never paid for it.

Seems fair to me. If a government provides free university education as an investment in it's own people then it should only be fair that those people contribute to their own country once they have graduated.

As in forever? That does sound communist.
A less oppressive government funded program might pay for their tuition in exchange for so many years in the service of the government and only being paid just enough to live on during that time. It would be legal and binding contract similar to an enlistment with criminal penalties for refusal to comply. After that contract time is up they can go do whatever they want wherever they want.
Being told I can NEVER leave the country would be one hell of an effective way to keep me from going to school even if I had no desire to leave the country. It's the principle of it....

Poland is doing great. The failure of the soviet system is why you had the solidarity moment in the 80s.

Poland is very enterprising, and the economy is far more diverse that say Russia, which is a one trick pony.

People forget that Poland has a rich history, before the soviet era. You have a lot to be proud of.

My father worked behind the iron curtain in the 60s. There was no shortage of people wanting to defect.

He was constantly and overtly followed. He even has photo where those tailing him would make sure they were in shot.

Those that are nostalgic about it, they held position in the party. The believe in there own hype, but they also still perpetuate the same anti-think / new-think, 2+2=5 mentality.

I remember two Russian Veterans being interviewed. They we asked about Starlin's purge period. One was very honest about the "disappeared". The other was incensed it was even being mentioned, and that It was exaggerated, and the probably were traitors anyway.

The Chinese could now be further from Maoism that you can get. Yet he cannot be questioned, becuase by doing so, it implies that he was wrong therefore they were wrong as a nation. This possibility cannot be entertained, despite his ideas being totally being rejected in practice. Maos famine, which was totally avoidable and man made, killed more people than Stalin.

Even party members accept it was a harsh time, but cannot diminish Mao's God like image.

These people are hard core, they need to believe it, becuase they can't admit to themselves they could be wrong.

Back in my college days when I had taken Russian/Soviet history, our instructor had said the feeling had always been, when Poland is up, Russia is down, and when Poland is down Russia is up. Hence, the Russian/Soviet leaders had always tried to keep Poland down.

That what he wanted, he wanted to make people after leaving public university, were forbidden from leaving the country for 2 to 3 years after obtaining a diploma, they could be working in the country or not, but it would not have the right to leave it.

This guy said that the current graduates opt for better-paid jobs in other EU countries.
Except that this as*hole does not understand that in Poland there is a high unemployment, young people find it difficult to find work, and even harder disabled.
For instance currently the unemployment rate for the entire Poland is 9,5 %

Barring a graduate from leaving the country for a few years after graduation could possibly be a plausible thing if the college education that the graduate recieved was free, and any employment of graduates was garnished to make retroactive payment of college tuition. --That being said, if Poland is an EU country, could not the wages be garnished anyways should the graduate work in another EU country?

Other than that, I find it to be deplorable.
