So it seems that I've hit a bit of a rough spot. I am experiencing something I learned about in a Sociology class I took over the summer, cultural shock. I anticipated I would, but what I didn't anticipate was that me coming in as a junior would put me with the rest of the upperclassmen who already have their friend circles established while I kind of just appeared. The loneliness and isolation I feel has been hard to live with, haven't slept well some night. I did sign up for some clubs (one which I'll be heading to in an hour) so I hope to get to know some people that way. I have talked with some people, but I don't feel like I'm connecting with them on a friendship level and I don't know if they feel the same. Perhaps I need to give this some more time, this is only my second week of classes. I have also signed up for some things that will help make my transition easier.

Just as an update from the previous post, I have been feeling a bit better overall, still feel kind of lonely and isolated though. There is a select group of people I feel that I am getting friendly with, but it is still not to the point of 'friends'. I am signed up for a few different things this week that will help me socially and academically. I have also been cast in a 'PIPS' play (Plays In Progress) so I hope that I'll get to know some people better through this.

Sounding pretty good so far, coming along well.
I'd never heard of PIPS before, sounds cool.

I don't know if this kind of thing is nationwide or not, but they are plays or one acts written by students, directed by students, and acted by students. Some have been made into full fledged shows in my school's theatre season and some have even been entered in theatre festivals.

So the official showing of the PIP I was in was tonight, and it went great. The show was overall well received and the playwright got some suggestions from the audience to make the show better. I was really happy to get in it, not only for the experience, but for the social interaction, which I have been lacking in greatly the past few weeks. I'm feeling good tonight and now my talent is known to the people that will be directing future shows within the theatre department.

That's great that college is going well for you :) This is my last year of community college, so I'm nervous about making the switch next year. I'm glad to hear it can go well.

I'll be honest that the transition has been harder and longer than I thought it would be, but I feel I am slowly starting to get more comfortable with things. I've signed up for some things that will make it easier and I joined the Improv club here. There are some people that I've been friendly with, but no one that I would call a 'friend' yet. I guess it just takes time for someone to find their place, but past history shows that I will and I'm sure you will too. :)

Well it looks like my luck may be turning around unlike my luck at the casino night my school had tonight. I went to the first meeting of a social success group I signed up for and one of them told me about a gaming club and said I should stop by. Well, I did and I met a friend of his and him there and had a great time with them, and they both just so happened to have AS.

I just transferred to a four year school to and do not like it. . . I miss my community college. I was an out of county student so community college didn't really feel like three more years of high school for me. Well, there were those people who already knew each other from high school and I could see what people meant by saying community college is more years of high school. I still really liked it and miss my classmates. Sadly we all went our separate ways. I don't like my new university and if I could I would go back in time to enjoy my years at community college but I remind myself transferring was bound to happen.

It's not that I necessarily don't like it here, it is that getting used to this new way of life and finding my place has been a bit longer and harder than I originally though it would be. I guess it just take time. Things have been getting better slowly, as stated in previous posts I have started to actually meet some people and I have been getting involved with clubs and things to make the transition easier. Go to some clubs that you are interested in, that has been a good way for me to meet people or at the very least make myself known.
