Number of pupils labelled special needs falls by 200,000 after schools are told to stop using label to cover up poor teaching

That is scary stuff there.

a step backwards imo. everyone has special needs.

We do seem to be in a period of backlash against what is perceived to be spoiling people and overdiagnosing people. The economy has been bad for a long time now. There is a psychological need for scapegoating. People who on the outside seem to be lazy make for an easy scapegoats. Teachers who receive benefits that everybody used to get but do not anymore are another convenient scapegoat. It is the idea that kids need to be occupied and spied on every minute of the day either to "Keep up with Joneses" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeping_up ... he_Joneses or because some predator will kidnap them that is the problem. This is not natural, kids need to be kids especially ASD kids. An 1970's ASD or other kid whom after a rough day at school had the release of playing sports outside or listening to music behind closed doors while having a difficult time might have been able to keep it together despite no understanding or diagnosis. Put the same kid in today's environment of unrelenting sensory overload and multitasking and networking of course the kid will be melting down all of the time.

So society after pushing kids over the edge cuts off their money. And we are the mentally ill, wrong ones?

That's a good summary. Helicopter parenting has been proven time and time again to be very, very psychologically damaging to kids. Almost equally damaging as criminal neglect.
Despite the dozens of studies about it, no one wants to accept it. People only like science when it agrees with them. It is damaging to Normals and AS people.

I find that historically, most people make their own societal problems, and often those problems are imaginary. People forget easily. When America went to war at Vietnam, it was caused directly by America's previous war in Vietnam where we disposed of the newly formed democracy, refused to acknowledge it and then tried to reinstate french colonizations even though France wasn't interested.
This is the same story, only the actors are different.
