Why is it that whenever I sign in to WP I get this little data stream on bottom left of my screen saying; transferring data to/from...; connecting to....

and how can I stop it. None of these sites have anything to do with WP

Hmm, there's not much to go on there...

What do you mean by "data stream" - is it some sort of animated progress display?
What sort of information (site names, for example) is it displaying?
Is it displayed as part of the browser's window or as part of the OS window?
Which browser and which OS are you using?

Connecting to; uat-net.technomedia
transferring data from dt.adsafeprotected
transferring data from load.s3

there are about 8 different things, connecting to and transferring data from. Moving too fast for me to copy

I am on Windows 8.1, Firefox, and this is the only site I notice this happening on

These appear to be related to the ads inserted into WP: I suspect that, over time, the names and quantity will vary as different ads are pushed here.

You might want to add the Firefox extensions AdblockPlus and NoScript to prevent them (and other assorted distracting noise) from being loaded: if I see any ads on any site these days it's something of a novelty...

In Firefox, go to Tools|Add-ons, then select "Get Add-ons", and type in (or copy/paste) AdblockPlus into the "Search all add-ons" box.
This should display a list of matches, where you'll see AdblockPlus and next to it, an "Install" button. Click that (Firefox will probably request a restart after it's been installed) and then go back in and repeat it, but searching for NoScript instead.
(the menu names may vary a little in the Windows version of Firefox but you should be able to find it Ok)
