My doctor wants to put me on a high dose of this SSRI, but we're having trouble getting the insurance to approve the higher dose. Nevertheless, I am taking it, along with the Seroquel and Klonopin. He thinks my main problem lately has been anxiety and obsessiveness, and even put down a diagnosis of OCD to try to get prior authorization for the higher doses. He does not think I am vulnerable to psychosis like I was when I was 14, and in fact he considers my worry over a psychotic relapse to be one of my obsessions that needs treating with the SSRI.

I am still worried, though, because the last time I was put on a high dose of an SSRI (age 14), I did develop psychosis. I wrote my doctor a letter showing chronologically the doses of Prozac I was taking and the time period in which my delusions formed and crystallized (not long after the dose was raised to 3 x 20 mg tablets a day), but he tells me not to worry about it. (I had secretly believed I was Sephiroth, that I was super-powerful, that I was going to conquer the world when Y2K came and that I had to train to prepare for that, and that a meteor I saw was a portent of my destiny to rule the world.)

I have asked my parents to be on the lookout for strange behavior.

My psych had me on 30mg of Lex; I took a 20mg at night & a 10mg in the morning. The max dose is 20mg a day so she had me exceed it by 50%. It was because she felt it helped better than the others but not enough & I tolerated it OK. I was taking Abilify & Klonopin too at the time. I was suffering from a psychotic depression & the psychosis was under control somewhat & I don't feel Lex made it worse. I didn't feel like it helped my obsessiveness & other OCD stuff thou. Nowadays I take Buspar for anxiety & Neurontin/Gabapentin for my OCD & that helps me better than anything else & without side-effects.

I'm feeling moody today, a bit bitter over lack of access to sex reassignment surgery, and jealous after reading how it's covered in Ireland but not where I'm at. It paralyzes me from doing anything productive.

Alas, the Lexapro seems to be increasing my appetite.
