 I love the pic.

I'm currently out of school, but, really want to go back and finish grad school (8 more classes left). I was just getting into some really fascinating courses (even though I was frustrated by not being able to pick a good thesis topic yet).

hmmmmmm...nice pic. :P

will be starting community college next year and switching to a 4 year institution afterwards. it was ranked as the #1 community college in the nation, and i don't think i'm quite ready for the full independent living, 4 year uni experience directly out of HS so why not? deadlines, deadlines...deadlines.... :duh:

what is your field of focus Ectryon?

(also unimportant...but i see you've hit 1000 posts. nice.)

I love the pic because I cant decide whether the cat is afraid or excited which is quite relevant to the whole starting uni experience :D Maybe its just been given a large tank full of Pike to eat lol

Im a music student and love it so much that ive decided that I want to lecture in a university/college straight after I finish my masters or PHD.

America's community college system seems to be popular among aspies I dont think there's realyan equivalent in the UK.... maybe a foundational degree. It seems really useful though to have that intermediary step. I definitely would have benefited. Best advice I can give anyone facing the 4 year degree is to get in touch with Disability Services. The services at my uni are AMAZING. Dont know what I owuld have done without them :D

What's your focus going to be?

Applied Analytics.
I wanted to finish my mechanical engineering degree (had to drop out when I had my first son), but, the Uni partnership my employer had didn't have any engineering courses at night, so I did Computer Science instead, since I've a knack for computers. While I was going through that, the head of the CS program told me there was a new curriculum being developed, for big data/informatics, and said I'd love it. I got early entry into the program, the first to sign up for it, and took the first four courses while I was still working on my B.S. Really interesting courses so far. I LOVE looking at a ton of information and detecting the patterns or aberrations in it.

P.S. Yep! When I was in high school, people started calling me Daria.
I had no idea why until I found the Daria movies when I was in college. ... to say I identify with her pretty strongly would be an understatement. She dresses and sounds just like me, and my parents find me even more perplexing than hers did.
Hehe, my older son does impressions of Britney and it cracks me up, he sounds like me otherwise. ;)

Community college is also popular among poor people because our Universities are SO EXPENSIVE!! !

Some students are able to enter community college while still attending High School, in order to get core credits out of the way faster.
My older son likes to learn but isn't very into the social aspects of school, so I will encourage him to go this route when he is of age, in another 5 years or so.

My husband is from the UK, and I know the educational system is modeled a bit differently than ours.

Going to community college counts the SAME as going to a four-year college for two years.

The credits earned at community college are the SAME as those earned during the first two years at a four-year college.

The courses at community college are the SAME as courses at four-year colleges.

There's nothing "inferior" about going to community college vs. going to a four-year college for the first two years of your pursuit of a Bachelor's degree.

The chorus of SAMES and the quoted "inferior" all suggest that you're post was made in anger. If my post is the source of that anger I apologise. Clearly its not a foundational degree. Im sure you can appreciate why that seems implicit given the way that people talk about going on to do a 4 year degree after community college. Anyways glad I wont make that mistake again

No anger here. Apologies if it seemed that way. I used capitalising only to emphasize my point. People tend to erroneously devalue community colleges.
