if it were up to you, tourists who lose their passport during transit, if putting them on the next plane should take more than 24 hours
would be given temporary ID and walk away 60%  60%  [ 3 ]
pay bail and take the next plane out of the country 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
electronic monitoring in a hotel they pay for until their plane arrives 40%  40%  [ 2 ]
holding cell until their plane arrives 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

No, it never happened to me, but I heard about cases that it did, and if it's during the weekend, it can take more than 24 hours sometimes to clear it up, maybe even a few days because they have to put the person on the first plane back to his native country, and maybe the next plane is full... especially in summer and christmas time.

i imagine it's worse than prison, because the person is held in solitary confinement in a cage, no TV, no internet, nothing to do and no human contact. maybe wouldnt have been so bad if it was someone imprisoned with a family member, but i'd imagine it's usually alone. sounds horrible to me.

an hour or two shouldnt be so bad, but i cant imagine anyone going through more than 24 hours this way without wanting to slam his head against the wall and being traumatized and angry for a long time afterward.

I'd assume putting an electronic device on them and letting them rent a hotel room in or near the airport would be much better. this way they can watch TV, talk to people, even get out to some extent.

i never lost a passport during transit, not ever. but once after leaving a bus, I realized my purse had fallen out of my pocket. luckily, it was empty anyway. but if it can happen on a bus, it can happen on a plane. and if it can be a purse, it can be a passport.

i live in Israel, and here, if a tourist loses his passport and realizes it in the airport, they check his details on the computer and then give him a temporary ID, and he walks away.
