I'm beginning to wonder if this will really happen. It seems this isn't the first time we've been promised a new version of WP.

*sigh* No wonder some of you seemed so cynical about this.

Considering how long I've been hearing about an update I think "this week" means "this year" in Alex's time

Just because I'm bored, I decided to calculate it. If he said 2 months about 3 years ago, it would seem that if he is saying it is one week away now, in AST (Alex Standard Time) that really means about another 2 of 3 months. That, of course, assumes that the update really will happen in that amount of time. If not, who knows.

I for one, have little to no problem with this website, so I for one, don't care if it stays the way it is forever, as long as I for one, can ignore the little problems that exist. Now if the site really breaks down, then it becomes a problem. But until then, I for one, can wait, with smiles.

And I for one don't blame the moderators for quitting, but considering that Alex has made the greatest effort overall in ensuring this opportunity is even available for anyone to use, I for one, would not blame Alex for simply pulling the plug, and moving on with one's life, like the moderators who quit did.

I for one, will never be a moderator here, and I for one, respect all the volunteer effort, that has allowed I for one, to enjoy this place, both in challenge and interest since 2010.

But I for one, have been to real human hell.

So what I can get through in life, and what others may not be able get through may be, just:

I for one.

I for one, think if you can easily afford an i-Mac (rich parents or whatever) you might consider one as I for one, have many more problems with this site, per actually speed of operation, until I made that purchase, and now, I for one, have more problems with Facebook than this site; seriously, I'm not kidding.

There are no significant problems on this site, at all for me, other than folks that cannot understand my emotional intent in reciprocal communication, that is, duh, par for the course and environment here (in other words to be expected and dealt with, appropriately as such, or inappropriately, as the case may be).

And truly if that bright screen/contrast/color thingy, cannot be adjusted, more people are going to be disappointed about this site, when the change actually happens, than what is, as is now.

I think that part is clear, by the responses here.

So folks, you might want to be:

Careful what ya wish for.

If I still had the sensory integration problems I had for almost three years here with light and sound, there is no way I could use that new example of the site, as screenshot and presented in this thread.

But I for one, can almost look at the sun now (not advisable), and rave dance (yes advisable, if one can do, as science shows it raises levels of Human Growth Hormone). So, no problem, for I for one, now, TG.

And for those of you that can afford a $700 pair of Maui Jim Prescription Sunglasses, (as most people here, as informally polled, are near sighted) the patented 7 tint technology does wonders for relaxing the ocular nerve, and is quite the medically documented real life miracle for me, in my recovery from visual sensory integration problems. Might be worth a try, for those of you, with access to bucks, if the new software makes it intolerable to use, as is, per readability.

And no, I do not work for the Maui Jim, corporation, as when I lauded the efforts of Autism Speaks, people often accused me of working for that corporation.

I just know a good thing, when I 'see' it, and do not fall easy prey to conspiracy theories. :)

Alex is not the 'God' of this site, he is just a twenty something year old autistic dude trying to make a go of it at life.

But again, like I say, I wouldn't blame him at all, at this point, if he just pulled the plug, as this is certainly no money making project, as Google ads are ignored here, like the plague, bringing pennies in, to keep the relatively low cost of keeping the servers going.

So, in other words, if one really depends on this place, I don't recommend biting the hand, that keeps it plugged in.

He needs support too, as he is only a young guy with Asperger's syndrome, who has effected some great things here, by developing this site, through total altruistic effort, helping himself along in his own life goals on the way, as he can.

It's really not hard to pull a plug, on a server, at all, particularly when folks are bitching at one for years about stuff as stupid as having Autism Speaks help fund some videos, so one can make a frigging living.

That part is absolutely disgusting to me, yes, I for one, and no wonder why, in part, he probably lost interest in this place, through conspiracy theorists that never got tired of beating him up over that.

I could see through that, and supported him as such, as the Autism Speaks organization, is another non-existent problem to me, again, for one, who has visited REAL PROBLEMS in life, all too much, all too well.

And that's another be careful what you wish for thingy. Look for good things: you'll find them. Look for bad things: you'll find them; just a simple rule of both human nature and human psychology 101.

Amen. Alex has made huge contributions to the autistic community. If he didn't take funding the Autism $peaks, the money would have gone somewhere else, such as a scare ad campaign or a risky clinical trial.

Wow, it would have been great if there were more Autism Speaks haters like you, to have been around to support Alex during his trying years when he actually did receive funding from Autism Speaks.

Now that he no longer does, to use your logic and to explore the issue more thoroughly there will more funding available to research the condition of Fragile X-syndrome, a direct causal factor of approximately 5 percent of Autism Spectrum Disorders, according to research funding by the CDC. This comprises two and a half times more, demographically speaking, than the approximated 2 percent of females researched as existing on the spectrum as a percentage quantity of additional research sponsored by the CDC when that diagnosis was still available in the DSMIV per US measures of Autism specific spectrum disorders across the spectrum specific to Asperger's syndrome where males with Asperger's syndrome constituted slightly more at 7 percent of the entire spectrum.

Fragile X-syndrome sufferers often suffer a mid-life premature death where they slowly lose their cognitive faculties in a fate than not many people would wish on others, as one not properly researched and addressed for an effective remediation of cure, as is part of Autism Speaks and the Simon's Foundations goal to help humanity with less suffering in this world.

Additionally, Autism Speaks has funded research associated with 22Q11 deletion syndrome, also a direct causal factor associated with the autism spectrum, involved with auto-immune system deficiencies that my child actually died from at a very young age.

To suggest that what Autism Speaks does, does not contribute to potential eventual life saving measures for many children on the spectrum with these co-morbid conditions that are direct causal factors, is simply not to be aware fully of what the organization does, and not realize fully, of how people with these co-morbid conditions do suffer in life, with shorter lives as a direct association with these co-morbid conditions that Autism Speaks directly funds along with many other organizations like the Simon's foundation to help reduce suffering among humanity.

Now, if you cannot see the value of that, that overrides a few conspiracy theories about mis-intent of the organization's actual goals to help reduce suffering at this point, there is nothing I can further do to help you understand that other than to present to reams of research material to prove my point, and I've already done that ad-nauseam on this site, and many other sites that purport conspiracy theories about the organization, just to bide my time, while suffering myself from the worst pain known to mankind for five solid constant years, known as type two trigeminal neuralgia. In other words it was all I had to get my mind off of my pain.

All that information remains in my head, but I've got much greener pastures to pursue now, than a circular argument against an organization that will potentially reduce suffering among children like mine, eventually, and maybe even save their life.

When you have a child that dies, yes actually dies from a co-morbid condition associated with the autism spectrum, that Autism Speaks is funding with many many other organizations and private donors who have also lost children to precisely the same genetic co-morbid disease/casual factors, to potentially eventually remediate to potentially save lives, then come back and tell me how bad WHAT AUTISM SPEAKS DOES IS, as an organization, and I'll continue to lend you an ear on THAT ONE, my not fully informed friend, and more fully informed now, if it helps at all, which I do NOT EXPECT it will, as it has been predictable in the past, among SOME demographics, online, so yes I fully expect that, if any response at all.

OTHER THAN that I'm glad you are supporting Alex now, in what he intelligently did, to make it in life, as that is what folks who truly want to survive in life, do. They work to survive, and adapt to do, whatever it takes, to survive.

Some folks like my child, don't get that opportunity and that's where altruistic all volunteer efforts like what the founders of Autism Speaks, and Mr. Simon a billionaire philanthropist for the Simon's foundation are worth their weight in gold, in an immeasurable way to those, who truly suffer from some of the horrific symptoms of co-morbids that ARE DIRECT CAUSAL FACTORS for tens of thousands of more cases of autism, than will ever set foot online to be able to fully discuss it, without personal suffering.

I need not worry, or fret over that, as there are other people who do fill those very big shoes of effort, In REAL LIFE, working their tails off to make lives better for those children, with more than words, yes, in REAL LIFE, NOW AS we talk about it online.

And IF YOU EVER HAVE A CHILD THAT DIES FROM ONE OF THESE CO-MORBID CONDITIONS, IT IS ONLY A COMPLIMENT ON MY PART TO YOU, AS PER YOUR BASIC HUMAN HUMANITY, that you then will be as passionate about this, as I am now per basic human empathy in YOUR CONCERN, over these children who do SUFFER NOW, FROM the co-morbid genetic conditions that are direct causal factors of conditions on the Autism Spectrum, NOW, in my passionate and yes very well educated opinion on this matter, expressed as such fully here, without fear of the censorship I have received from sites that do not allow these educated opinions that further perpetuates the conspiracy theories for those who feed into them, for whatever reason, they do.

Migrating? That sounds like we are going move to winter pastures in the low lands or something. Try and keep to the front folks! The stragglers get eaten.

This year ends in a couple more months so I was guessing rite without calculating :D

I thought the forum was supposed to be locked while it happens (presumably before the new UI goes live). Won't we know when we see padlocks everywhere?

I doubt the actual threads themselves would be locked; you'd see a notice on the forum main page that it's undergoing maintenance. Could be wrong, but it'd be the most logical and consistent with how most forums operate.

Then again I have reservations as to whether any of that is actually going to happen.

If you can still read the forums then it would still be logical to lock all of them because otherwise, I think it would be hard to download all the threads to migrate them to the new site while everyone is still posting without the most recent posts getting lost.
