Is Pat Robertson insane or just ignorant?

This guy spent 5 minutes and 42 seconds complaining (more liked whining) about Pat Robertson and some about Glen Beck and how their sponsors and viewers should abandon them. Duh, people don't watch or listen to either of them because they have shows, Pat Robertson and Glenn Beck have shows and sponsors because there is a demand (market) for their kind of shows and therefor someone is going to be fulfilling that role one way or the other.
A demand is being supplied regardless of whether or not it is BS.

I wouldn't know enough about the content of their shows since I don't watch them, listen to them, or visit their websites. It seems you liberals are always much more knowledgeable of the content of right wing talk shows and who said what than I am. In fact, up until watching that video I had no idea what Pat Roberston even looked like. I'd heard the name but had never seen him. Who knows, maybe now that khaoz has been kind enough to introduce me to his talk show I might make it a point to watch it and become an even more brainwashed, trollish, dangerously unhinged conservative. :D

Like most of these televangelist types (I don't know if I'd classify Pat as one exactly), they all seem a bit looney. Their focus is to make money on religion instead of being selfless.

Pat is more so nuts than most of them with all of his theories, that and he looks like a turtle without a shell.

I think that that has more to do with generation than political or religous leaning.

Everyone in 1990 knew Pat Robertson's face and mannerisms enough to laugh at the guy protraying him in the circa 1990 SNL Church Lady Sketch.


But he does indeed have a right to be crazy and ignorant on the air, and folks have a right to watch him be ignorant and crazy on the air (in numbers enough to support sponsors), and as long his ignornance or craziness does no real harm (nobody is taking medical advice from him) there really is no need for sponsors to withdraw. And some of the folks who watch him have the right to get on the air themselves, and to comment upon, and to even obsess upon, his nuttiness/ignorance for minutes on end.

So I guess that its all good!

The sort of ignorance and idiocy Pat Robertson spouts is typical of the Religious right. Evangelical minsters, not just in the Bible Belt, but all over the country, say the same inane bullsh*t. The only difference being, most of them don't have a TV show that reaches millions of viewers like Robertson does.

While I agree with you in essence, it should also be noted that Robertson's programming block remains on ABC largely as a result of contractual weaseling -- ABC is obligated to grant him airtime essentially in perpetuity.

Distasteful, yes (and for an ignorant, hateful, and slimy man like Robertson, doubly so for it giving his views voice); but a contract is a contract.
