That's true. Scifi is different because of what they show. Like a sci fi movie made in the 90s, they're supposed to be in the future, yet it doesn't exist. Like the very advanced computers there still have those huge tvs. Today in the actual future, we have smaller tvs.

Does anyone remember ChalkZone, Dexter's Laboratory, and Kim Possible?

Those were a few of my favorites

I remember Kim Possible. I always thought the name was funny. Kim Possible, Impossible.

I used to watch He-Man, the shows were just mostly action.
At the end though they had a moral preachy bit, one time He-Man recommended that people should read books.

Now compare that to today. In Disney channel shows they are always disparaging books.

I call Disney Channel the dating channel, every show on there is about teen or preteen dating, it's disgusting.

Spongebob is just plain perverted, they are always getting bodily fluids on each other, tears or saliva.

Right now my favourite kids show, or as I'd call it a family show, is Girl Meets World. The show is very sweet and makes the world seem like a better place for 20 minutes. There is a lot of great messages and off the top of my head no bad ones. People can and always will find something to criticize, especially if it's Disney. And I'm not saying it's perfect... but it is beautiful and I'm really happy it exists.

I'd say we were in the same place we were back then with cartoons, there's a lot of cheap terrible shows that get quickly forgotten or were just there to sell a product, then you have your Ren and Stimpy's and your Invader Zim's, but they go on Adult Swim now where they have no restrictions and can do what they want. There was no equivalent channel in the 90's, though saying that the highest quality cartoon I've seen in years is Adventure Time and it's pretty crap that only America gets Adult Swim (I wouldn't know about any of it without piracy).

Want a good example of this? The creator of Spongebob also created this: (NSFW) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoxMiZxN-F0 This is straight up Ren and Stimpy and I suspect it was too potentially offensive for release at the time it was created, but maybe now Adult Swim is more established...

I must truly be a fossil if people are now nostalgic for As Told By Ginger. Don't even feel like Dexter's Lab is that old, man time really does fly. I have two nephews who basically live with us so I see lots of kids stuff, "cartoons" and the ilk and what bothers me a lot is that a ton of shows aren't even "cartoons" anymore but use CGI or whatever. No doubt will be becoming more prevalent in the future, still sucks.

Really, I don't even think the classic Nick cartoons are that great. Rugrats 1st season is about all I can take of the show, hate klasky csupo studio stuff, always have, with the exception of Duckman. Ren and Stimpy was really crazy before Nick put pressure on the producers to tone it down. Invader Zim is a classic and I easily hold it over a lot of stuff most people swear by.

Liquid Television was where it was. I get so emotional when I watch youtube videos because I'm transported back to what was for me, a very magical time in the life. I lament old MTV more than I do cartoons in general because even back then 90% of stuff was just to sell toys or to indoctrinate kids. The good stuff that people miss were usually outliers, exceptions to the rule and you're heavily biased if you think otherwise. Its ok to be biased though, I am too! Nostalgia is a very powerful tool.
