are there any Jews here? I'm Jewish and I'm looking for my Jew Crew. i browsed the "what religion/belief do you belong to?" thread, and i found some interesting results; namely, the absolute lack of Jewish-identifying people who responded. there were lots of people who subscribe to various Christianities, and people who have created combinations or blends of belief systems that work well for them (good for you, by the way!), and people who are happy atheists, etcetera. I also saw a discussion about where have all the Muslims gone in a different thread. but my question is, "where have all the Jews gone?"

if you are Jewish and/or if you know of any Jews on this site, please, please, PLEASE respond. it's lonely enough being a minority in real life, but i should have realized that jews are a minority on the net as well. it still sucks though, so it would be nice to find some Kehilla Kedusha (translation from the Hebrew: Holy Community).

also, if you are not Jewish and you are genuinely curious about anything related to Judaism, i would be happy to answer your questions. i face a shocking amount of ignorance about the Jewish people in my daily life, so i have set out to get rid of it, one person at a time. (Disclaimer: i am not the leading expert on all Jews. i am just one representative for my people. my opinion is just one of many; as my dad likes to say, to every 2 Jews there are 5 opinions. There are websites that can tell you a lot more than i can on certain subjects, and i can refer you to them if you wish.)

but, please give me a hand. i really just want to find my online Jewish mishpucha (translation from the Yiddish: family). thanks, and i look forward to meeting you! Shalom!

We are all a minority of one. Not a Jew sorry.

There are minority faith like Sikh, Jain, and some even more obscure ones.

I happen to know a little bit about Jewish Women's culture from work connection. I know if I was female, I would find certain aspect hard if I was observant and Orthodox. Each to their own I guess.

Can you be Jewish in one sense, but also just yourself. I figure loneliness can also come from feeling obliged to play the minority socially, when actually many different types demographics overlap. So you can be in many majorities also.

I'm surprised that someone would post this because there used to be quite a number of very high profile members who happened to be Jewish here. But now that you mention it - some have vanished.

Ruveyn is an ethnic Jew. He posts still. There was a Jewish guy with the moniker " JakobVirgil" who used to be very active. But havent seen him since December 2013. Then there was Ragtime: a Jew-for-Jesus. But he also has not shown for a while. There was a young lady named Daydreamer84, who I also haven't seen very often lately.

Hmmm. I guess you're right - there arent many active members who actively identify as jewish at the moment.

I myself am a German Lutheran, but I do have some Jewish ancestry on my mother's side, as my maternal grandmother's maiden name had been Abramovske. Despite the apparently Jewish name, my maternal forebears had no collective remembrance of ever being anything but Prussian Lutherans.

I'm not Jewish (I'm a Catholic) but I have amazing respect for those who are and for the faith.

I like reading about it as well, it's very fascinating to me.

Surprises you?

Actually- I use the term "Jew For Jesus" as loose shorthand to describe him.
Apologize to you Ragtime, if you're dropping in, and dont like the label!

Don't know if he was actually a member of the organization of that name, and he never used that phrase on WP. But it was kinda obvious that thats what he was: a staunchly Jewish person who was into selling Christianity to other Jews ( his Fundie style of Christianity in particular). It was a running theme on PPR for for a while.

Okay, that makes more sense. Exchanging emails with him on various threads, I realized he was a fundamentalist pretty quick.

I'm Jewish, though I am a reformed Jew and even then to be honest I am not very religious - mostly I would probably consider myself 80% atheist but I guess I still identify with other Jews. Certainly went to Temple and Hebrew school as a kid but as an adult I've been a pretty minimal practitioner. Anyhow just posting to let you know there's at least one other quasi-member of The Tribe here.

I think he is Baptist of the persuasion that identifies with Judaism, rather than those Christians that consider it a threat.

With the exception of bigots or the out and out insane, I don't think most Christians of any kind see Judaism as any sort of threat siphoning off believers.

It depends which point in history. There is still a hangup over the crucifixion, even thought this was really the Roman and the local rules. Paul basically made Christianity less Jewish.

Though arguably the "Christian Jews" had been massacred by the Romans before this.

Doubtlessly true about Paul. As for blaming the Jews for Christ's death, whoever does that really has no grasp of Christian theology. They don't seem to grasp that Christ died under the weight of all human nature and sins. So are Jews responsible for Christ's death? Yes, but so are German Lutherans, Irish Catholics, Saudi Muslims, Japanese Shinto, and all the rest of mankind.

I am of Jewish extraction, interested in genetic genealogy and my religious roots.

I was raised old school Southern Baptist, but consider it somewhat gimmicky, when Messianics throw-in, odd, Yiddish idioms at random points in the message, or sell cheesy Judaica.

They will quote the interpretations of Jews, as though they have added credibility.

It makes me uneasy, to be honest.

I was in the mountains, when local, Jewish congregations celebrated Sukkot, and it seemed like less of a put-on, to me.

I think there are different ways of interpreting Judaism. Some say a a race. Some say a religion. But, I think of a culture.

This is a classic debate in the Christian church, about people called Judaizers. In other words, is your standing before the Most High predicated upon your participation in any one culture.
