Hi all. Thanks for dropping by.

Lupine - I really have thought a bit about whether I'm good enough to have a spider (tarantula) as a friend. A story...

===================

I had moved to west of London, working at the Admiralty Research Laboratory, as an employee of a software house. on my own, in my own (small, terraced) house. A change of assignment, and I was working north of London. I was doing a 1 1/2 hour drive, each way, every day. Plus I was working 10-12 hour days (Whole other story there... EMI body scanner, nuclear medicine, tomographic reconstruction. I wrote some of THAT code - that takes blurry, through the body images, and turns that data into crisp "slices" through people. Brains, hearts, that sort of stuff.)

Having always been AS, I'm now less surprised that I had lived there for about five years without speaking to my next door neighour, one side, ever, and the other, about twice.

They asked if I would look after their cat while they went on holiday for a couple of weeks. I said yes, without thinking it through. I love cats, they love me, but this scenario wasn't exactly ideal.

I was arriving back from work at 11pm, letting in, feeding and fussing the cat for maybe as long as a whole hour. Then I had to put it back out. as I needed to get to bed, because I needed to set off to work at 9 a.m. (yes - I've never gone for "conventional" hours). Note - this does not include me eating - I didn't. I'd eat during the day, at work, sometimes. Not often indoors.

The cat put up with this for three days, then didn't come back.

Eleven days later, I had to explain to my neighbours that I'd lost their cat. Amazingly, they just accepted it. We spoke just as often after the event, as before - maybe more - probably as much as once every year.

===============

So. Could I trust myself to provide a secure home for an archnid?

Hah I remember THAT punch line.

Good to see you here, Inventor.

Rats. Now I can't remember where it came from.

My apologies. It was quite inexcusable of me to fail to turn up for my own marriage ceremony. My excuse, of course, was that someone moved the altar, while I wasn't looking. Will you ever forgive me, dear heart. (Sob).

That's a baby dino that my troll is carrying in the bogy-skep. Here's his big brother:

I bet you're scared now!

(How does postpaleo know they taste like chicken?)

The Lau! Inventor! [Man, where you been?! Smile I've really missed you! Rumors of your near banning owing to being too funny are afloat. True? Damn you! Stop being so funny! Smile ] Lupine and Rosie! PostPaleo! Nannarob! UbbyUbbyUbby! Merle! Glad to see you're still here in the "remodeled" Dino-Aspie Flambe'! Smile (At least, I think its you, the dust hasn't yet settled).

All of you except Robyn, Helen and Daniel were in it before me. Most of you at its inception! Wow! What a wonderful cafe Yowler created, with your quips, antics, life stories and carryings on. So I know it's got to feel strange, weird,... sad... to see it go.

When I read what people had to say about feeling excluded, uninvited, not knowing how to post etc., I felt kinda bad. I never intended to make anyone feel that way, and hope I didn't. I guess I'm guilty of being oblivious to it, as I see numerous people in the new forum that I did not know were here! I'm glad that they now are able to post and have fun. I hope that I did not make them feel unwelcome. I also hope I didn't make Yowler feel like a stranger in her own cafe. Perhaps I carried on too much sometimes, but I don't think any of you ever did... I love a good laugh, and to try to joke around. I really enjoyed our give and take, and playing around with ideas... And I loved all of the people who came here to post and share their lives, stories and time.

Apparently Bogy Skep, a mischeivous ghost elf who leads people astray into a beehive, was a ouija board prediction of what happened. Smile

Whadaya say we go down with the ship? Or paddle her 'til she sinks? I'm in the middle of my 110 hr work week, so its up to you 'til I get back. (Can't do much posting myself right now on account of that). Let me know what you all think.

Anyhoo, as always, its good to read your thoughts.

Chuck

Finally: in the end, its the people that make a place a home. All of you made this a home for me.
I'll miss it. I hope all of you stay. I'll miss you greatly if you leave. If we can't do it here, let's
try to give it a go in the new forum, eh? But if you choose not to, I honor your position. Just pm
me your home email addresses before you leave, if you decide to go. Take care, Chuck.

Lost a full freakin writing to the mutt, couldn't get it back, well it's in pieces. Ended up writing one about loosing the first one. And THEN the sob kept hounding me. 25 and a half hours with out swampblossom and I'm about to go on a dog rampage. Well other cultures think dogs are nice, I just may try a little culture shock.

I wake up slowly, some days. It was the comment from Inventor, which I couldn't figure out, but he can get really confusing/confused (hi Inventor, ditto here, not a criticism), and he was really talking about eating aliens, at least that's what he said aliens tasted like, on Ubby3's thread, but maybe dinosaurs and aliens do both taste like chicken and... am I losing it, you, my marbles?

If swampblossom comes back and finds you've eaten the dog, won't she be a little less than pleased?

tsk, tsk. look at all this rubble.

well, ~i'm~ not gonna clean it up. i always have to clean it up. somebody else clean it up. Wink

i hate it when they put "adult" in the label of anything. it immediately ensures that the stridex and teen-angst set are going to visit on a regular and vocal basis.

it do get old.
