So who here likes to work on cars or has modified/personalized their vehicle? I know we had the "what do you drive " thread, but this is slightly different. Anyway, your rides, your personalizations, post em up

I have not modified my vehicle as I do not have one. But if I had a car, I would get a hearse, soup up the engine and add a sound system.

A hearse would be hard to park, but worth it cos of how it looks!
I think a good sound system is imperative, and have recently bought a cd player for my car (I wanted one for five years)
I love to run my hands through my fluffy seat covers as well Rolling Eyes
Mechanical: I would like extractors to make my car sound better and maybe a sports exhaust, too. Right now the exhaust pipe is about the size of a pinhole.

ah. i thought this was more of a "who's a grease monkey?" sort of thread, cos i was going to leap in enthusiatically. i like working on my car. actually, i'm not sure that's true, as the reason i work on my car(s) has always been that's there's something wrong with it.

shutup, vv (see, rumio?! Smile )

Do not use an overly large exhaust pipe. Otherwise the car will suck in my opinion.

Depends on the type of car you have. If you've got a 4 banger, you won't want to go with too large an exhaust system or tailpipe, as it will suck away power because it will diminish your backpressure. Not to mention sound terrible. You can go with something slightly larger (2.5" diameter) on a v6 or v8, but not too large, as it could make the car sound/perform worse. If you've got a turbocharged vehicle, go with 3". The turbo will provide all the backpressure the engine will ever need, and performance won't suffer.

I've gone with a full 3" hollowed out straightpipe system with a single baffle-less dynomax N-1 muffler. It sounds absolutely horrible, and is probably illegal because its so loud, but I don't really care. Flows good, lets my turbo spool up quickly and I can wipe the grin off snooty sports car drivers faces with it Very Happy

also, get yourself an intake. that improves sound too.

HUge exhaust pipes on small cars suck. It is not funny. I am sorry. It just makes the car noisy.

I won't say "like" but a love of owning cars, and a low budget means I've done a lot.

On my bug I put the transmission in, the rebuilt motor, The drive shafts, rebuilt the front end, did the wheelbearings, and converted it to disk brakes.

I even built the speedo and the radio from broken units. Smile

sometimes those small cars have turbos, so the huge pipe becomes very necessary. but 99.9% of the time, its just some idiot who slapped a folgers can on the back of his car and called himself trying to get a better exhaust note.

Oh well. I hate small cars anyway. They really annoy me. They are damn difficult to get into.

I just want an exhaust a little bit bigger than what I have. Really, it's very small as to be Embarassed I don't want too big as to look stupid.
And I've got a small car, although I like driving large ones! Sometimes this is not practical, as I have to use books and cushions to sit on so I can see over the steering wheel.

I have a bunch of theory of operation about cars. But not much practical experience. And whenever I try to do a repair, I get frustrated by how much lack of experience I do have. I think I could get good at fixing cars, but I really need some one to help me along and show some of the pitfalls that could come up when doing something. And I never seem to have the proper tools to do the job at hand, and I don't really own too many of my own tools, so I use my grandparents tools, which are impossible to find and are really disorganized... much frustrations.

It all seems relatively simple working on cars, but it is never as simple as I think its going to be...
