I'm a HUUUGE Sonic fan, and I get picked on for it all the time, I hear comparsions of Sonic to games not even REMOTLEY like it, I get laughed at, gangs of people try to get me mad by saying "Sonic's crap!" at the top of their voices, and just in general try to make me feel like I don't belong on this planet
Sure it may be just a game, but it does kinda hurt, that someone could be so cruel to me just because I'm not into what they are
What about you guys? |
Sonic is awesome! I use to watch the show but the video games are really fun too. |

| I have usually been pretty quiet about my interests. I just keep things to myself but sometimes people at school will bother me when I am reading or doing an interest...like just because they don't like something I shouldn't either. My interests have varied. I guess I'll list some of them...dirt, bugs, human brain, paper clips, pokemon, video games, music, disorders, astrology...that's about it I think... |

I'm fascinated by trains. I suppose that makes me a stereotypical AS kid. _________________ I have Asperger's, schizophrenia, and OCD.

My Dad is like that too! I love nature as well, but I only ever remember how the plants transport water and how they obtain mineral ions from the soil, not the names of the plants! I call most things that swim ducks and most things that fly birds. LOL. _________________ I have Asperger's, schizophrenia, and OCD.

Serial killers are fascinating to a point to just about everyone. Why do you think they get such a disproportionate amount of media time when a particularly grisly one pops up? I think I found an interesting article once about how they're fascinating because people are generally programmed to be interested in new dangers so that they themselves may learn to avoid them.
My obsessions are fairly common--languages, dogs and behavior. _________________ cogito, ergo sum.

My interests are world religions, the album Reasonable Doubt by Jay-Z, Bre Scullark (former top model contestant), Nick Arcade (an old game show that aired on Nickelodean that now is shown on the channel Nick GAS everyday at 4am). The first 3 aren't really abnormal it's just the extent to which I go to fulfill my obsession to know as much as possible about those things. (I actually write term papers in school about them just to give me a reason to do hours of research on the subjects)
Oh yeah and and getting straight A's. Not for any real reason. Throughout high school I could care less about grades. I even flunked out of college once before. It's just 'cause I think having the same grade on my transcript looks uniform and kind of cool. I laughed at the face my academic advisor at community college made when she found out I wasn't interested in getting a B.S. degree at a 4-year university. Something like " " |

People think my meerkat and Lion King obsessions are not normal. Maybe they aren't because I don't like Meerkat Manor and get made fun of by so-called Lion King fans becuase I am so obsessed with it. I don't see any Lion King conventions any time soon. The only place I really fit in is the My Little Pony circut (there's at thease three or four other people with Asperger's on a message board called My Little Pony Arena). Some people claim to be really obsessed but after my exprience with the Lion King message board I wonder if they really are. |

I have a tremendous interest in politics and history. I drive my history teachers absolutely insane. If anyone in the class is interested in learning, an excellent time is had by all. Unfortunately, no one ever is. _________________ On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero. |

I am also interested in world religions and would turn any psychology paper into a psychology of religion paper. I also used my advanced composition class as an excuse to write about religious language.
I don't think that the interest itself is unusual, but the amount of time I spend on it is. I had to learn to limit my time in research, otherwise, I will spend a full day looking up information on the web or reading a book about different religions.
Another interest of mine is the brain and how it works. |

Languages, but it depends on which ones. Where I come from, if you like Spanish or Italian (Romance languages), people are interested in your obsession. If you like Japanese, you might be nerdy because stupid people assume that if you like Japanese, you like anime, etc. If you like German, you come off as liking the whole goth or beer scene.
Stereotypes hurt.
Anyway, I love browsing around grammars of the Slavics and Turkics. They have very interesting word orders and syntax. _________________ I like stuff. Do you like stuff? |

People think the fact that I own a Segway and use it for transportation is extremely odd. It is rediculously fun and I save a ton of money on gas, but a lot of people call me lazy, rich (I'm not, couldn't afford a car if I wanted one), a show-off, etc. The other day I even had a guy just flip out at me, saying I had no right to be using it on the sidewalks (I can, it's allowed under state law), yelling and cursing at me, etc.
I was actually giving a bit of thought to selling it, since being an Aspie makes it difficult to deal with this level of attention. But my Segway is just so much fun! |
