I often feel that I am too high-functioning to blend in with the low-functioning people, but lack the social skills to blend in with the neurotypical kids. Once, I went to a camp for kids with autism, and was out of place there. This year, I went to a camp for neurotypical kids and was out of place. Anyone else feel this way or have any advice?

jeeze, i guess, tho i never met anybody else like me, i had HFA diagnosed when i was 4, as they called it, but im far to high functioning now, 2 years ago i got a job driving forklifts and bought a house and a brand new car, all at the age of 24 cause im excellent at keeping track of money in my head, so im efficent, NT's my age generally dont have these things and often i find its hard to mix with crowds that dont know me well, and i can imagine their r many AS ppl out their that i would not mix well with eather, but thats just an assumption, whenever i talk to ppl on here they all seem just like me, but some have trouble holding down jobs, or dont live independently or dont have friends, im lucky, but thats only what a few ppl tell me on here, most ppl on here i have no idea how they did or our doing in life and i would love to read more about it sometime, maby ill start a thread??

Yes, I feel this way, but unfortunately I have no advice for you. Except find a hobby you like, cause if you're like me, you won't have much of a social life. Sad

I usually don't notice my difficulties unless my nerves get the better of me. I'm not sure if I actually have AS or just anxiety. I know I have other AS features, such as strong interests in unusual subjects, but they don't limit my life.

i notice my difficulties alot of the time...my stark contrast with everybody else that has been with me as long as I can remembr.....Dealing with people (as I have to do as part of my job every day) I percieve this great divide...it is rare that I ever click with anyone...and often push people away when they try to be friendly, for reason that I find difficult to understand...
I have horrible social skills in certain settings...but at the same time I am capable of being a generous hostess. Plus, don't drive, stim like a monkey, am horrible at eye contact, walk on my toes..

But there are things about me that while not NT...are glaringly non-aspie....or manifest in a way that is very subtle...I am not very analytical...I am not good at math or computers..have no desire to line things up or take them apart...I do not adhere to rigid routines...enjoy a wide variety of foods...I am all over the place....

I am alot different from the people I know who have stated they were Aspies...

I guess it could be that I am either HFA or PDD-NOS.

I sure wish i had some way of knowing.

I think that's how most people with AS feel.

Yeah pretty much. Those with AS, if they are smart enough, with time start to understand how the NT world works. I know that's the case with me... every failure is an opportunity to understand.

Once I become familiar, I'll probably understand the social situations even more than the NT who just understands it on instinct.

My working abilities is always a problem though... I can understand from a distance...once I am put into a real situation and have to think on my feet... the problems come a flyin'.
