A useless question came to my mind. I read that approximately twenty-six people out of ten thousand are Aspies. Out of these, approximately how many go to college and how many stop school before?

Loy, I don't consider it a useless question. In terms of members of WrongPlanet going to college. Of course, I (we) will have to know specific members in order to calculate such a statistic.
As for myself, I graduated high school in 1996, thought about going to college to major in meteorology... but that was and still is just a hope for Asperger's related reasons. |

I went to college and grad with two BAs: one in elementary education the other in history (ah my true love)
I also have extensive training in firefighterg in an internationially recg. level
and I am a Nationally reg. EMT-B
I enjoy gaining knowledge.... |

Same here. Even though I'm still in high school, I plan to go to a university next year... study either chemistry or biology or something like that.  And then go to grad school.

| I finished college, earning a diploma (Developmental Services Worker) in a two-year program. It was a very small college, a satellite location away from the main campus. It was 20 min away from my house so I lived at home. The classes only had about 25 people in them so it was a lot like the way school works in the younger grades before high school - our class was 'our class', it consisted of the same students all the time. We were with the same classmates all day every day for the whole 2 years. We were in the same classroom most of the time too, just that we had different teachers for each course/subject. I loved that setup. I don't think I would have liked traditional college/university life on a normal-sized large campus at all. |

I'm an aspie, and I'm planning on going to college. I really hope I could go, since lots (or most) decent jobs require a college degree nowadays. If I do go, I want to go to a smaller college, since I don't do well in situations when there's lots of people there (like 50,000+ people or something).

| Going into my 4th semester of college now at 22. I go to a small 2 yr community college, so, it feels a lot like high school in size. Im enjoying it so far. Dont know how Id fare in a huge university setting though. I like the small class size's and personal attention small colleges have to offer. |

| I went to college and graduated two years ago. I graduated from high school, although I was very close to dropping out because of the bullying and general nonsense. |

I graduated from college with a B.S. in mathematics. Did a year of graduate work in mathematics, stopped when I had my first baby, went back two years later and did about three years' graduate work in computer graphics. No more degrees, though.

| College (psych major) straight out of high school, almost failed out for the first two years, got it together, graduated with good grades, tried grad school, lost it again... maybe sometime I'll give it another go, but I'm realizing I may have less control than I think. |

Only now realizing that I chose an environment that was especially unsuited for my problems. Undiagnosed at the time. Wanted to attend a large school, in hopes of blending into the crowd enough to avoid negative attention. Also figured the odds of finding others who were strange like me was increased in a larger population. At RIT (20,000 students), the dorm buildings looked identical to each other-still have bad dreams about getting lost there !
Dropped out (combination of reasons) after finishing 3rd year of BFA, that was back in 1994. Hadn't occurred to me that I'm not at fault, that if I'd gone elsewhere I might have succeeded. Not like I've use for a degree, though-piece of paper has no bearing on my inability to cope with work demands. Dreaded notion of life after graduation, instead of looking forward to it (like my classmates). At least school provided structured mental activity, which I miss. Being booksmart was rewarded, and was nearly sufficient to justify my existence. Learning/knowledge from academia doesn't translate/transfer to life I experience out in the world. I was naive/unaware.

| i definitely plan on going to college. i'm going to art school to study fashion design (un-aspie-ish you think?) so first i just need to find some good schools to apply to! |
