Do you like being AS. if not would you rather be retarded or paralyzed.

I'd rather be retarded. being AS is no real benefit for me. I am ostracized, rejected by the world. people don't understand me. I desire to have friends so much but nobody wants to hang out with me.
I can't hold jobs becuase of my syndrome I am stuck in deep poverty but yet I have more education than 99% of the population.
If I were retarded people would understand me better, I would not seem like an alien to normal people. I would get sympathy from parents and strangers. I would not have such a detailed comprehension of my sorry predicament.

Then just act retarded if it is such a better existence.

Your user name... "asspie" is well on your way.

Act retarded if you want, it will certainly be entertaining to many. But keep in mind that if you have a superior intelligence it's best to try and use it. Not everyone can get out of poverty or have rich grandparents like mine, but everyone has some way of having fun and making money too. Don't be so bloody droll. That's my advice, get out there, meet some people, hell even if it's at your local SuicideGirl cabaret when they come to town. I mean seriously, as wild as I am, the people that go to those things, and the punk shows in general are pretty friggin' crazy. Twisted Evil

Meh, I gotta live with being AS. Answering your question there. Wink

And acting retarded? Nah, if I started to act retard, people would back away from me even more. Neutral

I'm not sure how much being an Aspie affects my personality, but I'm pretty happy with who I am, plus being an aspie helps me with my creativity, so I'd have to say yes.

I can relate to what asspie is saying. In one way, it would be "easier" for us all socially if we had an obvious physical or mental impairment. That way, other people would see immediately that we had certain difficulties and would adjust their expectations accordingly. But with us, our "challenges" are mostly invisible, and they mostly involve our lack of ability to interact well socially. Since others' fragile egos are constantly being bruised by our faux pas, we're usually assumed to be a-holes rather than neurologically-challenged. So yeah, I see what asspie was getting at. Being paralyzed or mentally retarded would suck, but it would suck in a different way. I think that's all that was meant.

I liked having it until I started a job, then I realized that I have a lot of flaws to work on.

I love AS. I think it's a huge advantage for me.

Sure, I don't understand other people much, but I also don't have much interest in them, so it doesn't matter. I work in a job that requires very precise language and careful awareness of what knowledge one actually has (I'm a database manager), so I'm almost incapable of making mistakes. I do get frustrated when other people make mistakes - they're somehow willing to make decisions even when they don't know what the outcome will be - but since I'm in charge (I designed the database) it's them who get in trouble for doing it. I require everyone who works for me to think like an Aspie, because that's what database work rewards.

I've given my staff 2 important rules to follow:

1. DON'T GUESS.

2. BE RIGHT.

The only real problem I have is that some people find my management style (alternately cold and robotic or overly familiar) off-putting.

Sometimes I like having AS, but other times I get sad that I can't function like NTs.

AS, at least in the form it manifests itself in my personality, would be a pretty dang great thing if I could turn it on and off at my own desire; being able to be NT or AS according to the situation. Seems like I have a few slightly savant-ish tricks up that AS sleeve that I certainly wouldn't want to loose...

I refuse to accept that NTs can actually function the way they think they do. If they actually know how to read non-verbal cues they can explain it in a book. But they haven't, yet.

I would only replace my AS to be a NT.
I would never want to be a retard.
