| i agree with the provisos of not always being able to ask for help without self confidence. Liane Holliday willis has found a long term career, had afaamily and wrote a book. I haven't, yet, so I haven't got self confidence. May be in the futre something like this will happen. My sister., who has got a job and a husband, says lots of people haven't got jobs or families of their own. I think it affects people differently, and as i haven't acheived much by the time I'm fifty, I have a right to be depressed and feel bad about my self sometimes. |

I can say "yes" to 4 of L H W's pledges; I shall work on the other 7 (some are possibly achieveable - others are distant dreams however) - I do so love lists.

"better to die standing than live kneeling"
"Never let them see you limp"
I am strong, capable, competent, intelligent and independent.
I am not perfect, I do not need to be.
I am different from others, and thats okay.
I have been through a lot, lived horribly, lived untrue,
been petrified of my own mind, consumed by it, destroyed by it.
Damaged myself and damaged others.
I've fallen victim to myself and will probably fall again but,
I have survived and I will continue to survive.
And still freshly twenty young as it might be I've wasted so much time
my accomplishments are easily forgotten by my faults that I need to improve
What I will continually remember however is
My hell I live, I live it and its mine.
I create it, I can destroy it
And I will survive. _________________ Just give him a kiss on the cheek. |

i agree with all except:
"i will ask for help if i need it"
and
"i will be patient with everyone who doesn't understand me"
everytime i ask for help the answer i got was "dont be shy" "talk more" "make more friends"
i tried to be patient but patience has a limit |

| Fedaykin wrote: | It feels like that pledge is more suited for girls/women. I don't have any written pledge myself, but I do have beliefs that justify my worth, even though I've not had the chance to make much of an impact on society. These beliefs are a bit arrogant, but I don't see anything wrong with that if it's simply how you're viewing the world - actually going around telling people what I think about them would perhaps be a bit rude though. My justification goes something like this:
People in general are idiots that only look one step ahead and don't really care about the things that are required for future generations to enjoy the gift of a great life the current generations have been given; The caring they display is mostly lip service and isn't aimed at actually achieving the outspoken empathic goal. "It's the thought that counts" is how they justify the result ending up all wrong. They believe in lots of falsehood and don't use the brains they've been given to question their beliefs, even though that would enable them to better achieve what they claim is the goal of their values. They make lots of fuss about petty matters and act disorderly unless there's authority there to boss them around.
Here is where Aspergians shine - we are people that don't compromise with our values, and use our brains to the fullest in finding out the best way to achieve the values we believe in. Even though our main focus is on systems like our societies or the planet, things that everyone is dependent on, we do go beyond lip service if we find that someone needs us and actually try to solve their problems. We strive to understand the world in an unbiased way and don't just accept false beliefs. We do have a tendency to have a defiant anti-mentality, but in time, we contemplate the different ways you can look at an issue and find some focus that requires our attention. We truly care about the things we're studying, and since we don't bother adhering to the nonsense that's in the public debate, we're often labelled "extremists". We also are able to operate as individuals, we don't need a crowd to chant that we're right to state our beliefs.
I think that the first men that ascended from the lower primates must have seen weird like we do and initially have been outcasts - these men probably didn't groom their friends in the same way that we don't bother doing any social grooming.
I feel that this syndrome has been a very important part of collective human intelligence and progress throughout history, and that's the justification for our existence. |
Agreed, but the aspies your describing are the alpha aspies, those true non-conventional intellectual elite among us who really don't need someone to tell them how to think. Those like us are aspie savants. The aspie savant is the next major phase in evolution, people less aspie are stages on the spectrum of this change in evolution, and the low functioning are, unfortunately, the victims of the cycle.
But if you looked at this forum, and blindly thought that a greater majority of people here are aspie, then you wouldn't see too much of a difference from NTs, and it would make aspies look like hypocrites. Some on here are phoney, some are in varying degrees of autism on this spectrum and may not be as aspie as we are (going by the beautiful mind theory), and of coarse some of them might have just been badly affected by their environment. Some are nice and respectful NTs, and occasionally a not-so-respectful NT. But then there are us few, proud, aspie savants. I raise a toast, Fedaykin. |

| Others I've met were Mordy, Aspie Chav, Hellznrg, Kosmonaut, Therion, En una isla, just a few off top of my head, theyr all alpha aspies. Some of them aren't on this forum anymore though. |

My instinct for survival has kept me alive and going. I did think of suicide but I was always sure that I would not do it as it would not help my cause. I thought of escaping with the help of narcotics or something, but I never dared.
Now I know what I'm supposed to do in this wrong planet. I MUST SURVIVE. It has been a tough journey but the road is getting better. My honesty and to-the-fact approach in life has helped me but has done lot of harm too. I won't compromise but.
Everyday is a new beginning so everyday is more enjoyable. |

I embrace all of my differences.
I am not afraid to be my own person.
My art is just as good as the art that was made, by all the well-known artists in history.
I have my own unique clusters of AS/Autistic traits. _________________ Sid The Rat is everything that I stand for. We're both large, proud Punkers with Cockney accents. We both have the same issues, as well. I don't see anything wrong, with that. I was put on this planet, to make myself happy. Sid :O) |

This is a nice topic to sign out with.
I found this topic randomly, and I enjoyed reading the posts.
I've been on the computer all day and I'd better have a rest as I am getting sensory overload.
Thanks be to Liane Wiley.
Once again. Merry Christmas. and Happy New Year. |
