I'm on Facebook, mainly to keep in touch with past friends from High School - also active in a few AS/Autism related forums.

I agree. I've spent a fair bit of time on the site looking around. Part of me feels jealous seeing all the photos and the lists of 200+ friends. Part of me thinks the whole thing is a bit shallow, symptomatic of this day and age perhaps.

I have a profile myself. I've got nearly 20 friends apparently, most of whom I've never seen out of work or school. There's no way I'm going to advertise my A.S. or my political views or my relationship status to the whole world though. Best stick to inanities to pad out my profile I guess.

I disagree with you because you have met some of the people on my friends list in real life. Also makes you become more social if you seriously thinking about. It maybe a popularity to some but others it is something completely different from your idea.

I have 213 friends on facebook, in which I would also consider like 4-5 my actual friends.

Facebook is very usefull though: You can look at your "friends" profile and see exactly what they are doing and their relationship status/fieldofstudy.

Its useful for much more than people think Smile.

Facebook has been a good thing for me because I met people on it and then the people in reality and we got along pretty well so Facebook is good to begin a social life for you in some ways.

I agree. I used to not believe in facebook. I thought it was a waste of time and a stupid popularity contest. But now I realize it's great for keeping in touch w/ old friends. Plus it's fun to set up your page...And I've even talked to a couple people from my high school who I never really met back then, and now we're actually true friends. I still don't buy into the idea of having 300 "friends" on there, most of whom you don't care about, but to meet some new people or keep in touch with old friends, yeah, it's cool.
