1. eat chocolate... it's an antidepressant and an aphrodesiac(sp?)!
2. play loud cheerful music
3. sleep lightly, with the lights on
4. watch a really hilarious comedy show... Just For Laughs is great. Very Happy
5. drink lots of coffee
6. take a tiny bit of alcohol with your anti-d's.
7. drink coffee with your anti-d's. It'll help dissolve them quicker.
8. crush your pills into powder before washing them down with a cup of coffee
9. don't get drunk
10. Don't feel pressured to ingest anything you know is poisonous for you, will taste bad, or will make you feel bad now or later!
11. Go out into the light and walk around! Run around! If people think you're running from the cops let them; it's more excitement!
12. Do sports-- something where you can really show off your skill and energy and talent!
13. Go shopping or window-shopping!
14. Talk a LOT to people!

Actually I find this to be incredibly annoying when Im depressed.. It clashes with my emotions and makes me want to tear my head off.

5. drink lots of coffee

It can form a bad habbit/addiction.. But I cant talk, as I drink a lot of ArizonaIcedTea lol

6. take a tiny bit of alcohol with your anti-d's.

Any doctor will tell you this is a bad idea.. Wink

Interesting, never thought about it.. Although it has more to do with the temperature of the drink more than what kind of drink it is.

8. crush your pills into powder before washing them down with a cup of coffee

Why does this work?
Quote:

9. don't get drunk

Getting drunk actually does make you quite happy. However, being a drunkard is a very bad idea, trust me.

Sorry, I hate sports Laughing

13. Go shopping or window-shopping!

As long as I am feeling better, I like doing this too sometimes. As long as there arent too many people around. Of course:p

14. Talk a LOT to people!

As long as they are people I know and actually want to hear from me, then yeah I agree with that too.

As for walking in the light, the sun gives you seratonin, which is a chemical for happiness.
Walk out into the sun after a long dark winter. It's a natural high.

I loathe the sunlight. I actually find it to have an intolerable mocking quality about it when I'm depressed.

Way to save yourself:

Get lost in a movie.

I'll put what I've found helps for me.

Exercise, especially swimming, I have no idea why. Maybe the feeling of being supported in water, it's just very relaxing.

Light, is a definite thumbs up from me too. I use a lightbox when the days start getting shorter.

Eating well as has been said. I don't know why but I always want to eat junk when I'm depressed, but fruit and veg make me feel better. Oh, and chocolate. Smile

If you're worried about something talk to someone about it.

Put on some music and dance! Very Happy

It's one hell of a cure.

Whether it "saves" you or not can be debated till the end.

Being in the sun always improves my mood, so winter depression is really the one that takes its toll on me. A couple years ago I discovered the best way to beat winter depression is to find something I like doing in the dark -- for me it was curling up with a mug of hot chocolate, a handful of clementine oranges, and watching the silent films of Harold Lloyd.

Are you a moron? (Trust me - that's a lot more polite than what I really want to say.)

Mixing alcohol, a central nervous system depressant, with any kind of psychoactive medication is really, really bad advice, even if it's supposedly a "tiny bit." Suggesting that other people should to it is irresponsible for so many reason. But for breivity's sake, alcohol has numerous drug interactions that are hard to predict and are not always readily seen, and even more importantly, alcohol is highly addictive and its addictiveness can be increased by combining it with other mood altering chemicals as well as drinking while depressed.

Maybe this gives you a little more punch in the morning that you feel you're not getting from your RX (and BTW that IS an addictive behavior, in case you didn't know - altering your meds to get more instant gratification), but in the long run, this well surely make your depression more problematic, mainly because you're systematicallymaking yourself dependent on alcohol. You might wish to watch "Intervention" on A&E sometime to see what an effing joy being an addict is like. Might make you think twice before handing out dumb advice like this.

BTW, if you want to do something that'll help ease depression that isn't going to set you up for a future in 12 Step meetings:

- Keep a regular sleep schedule. No bitching. No whining. Just do it.

- Exercise, daily, preferrably in the morning, at least 30 minutes. Improves mind-body connection, boosts mood, immune system and energy levels, regulates hormones, blood sugar, and brain chemistry, and helps you sleep better.

- Avoid processed foods, excess caffiene, excess fats and salt, additives and artificial sweeteners, as all these can be triggers for depressive episodes. Eat a lot of veggies and fruits, and take a multivitamin and 1000 mg of Omega 3 fatty acids supplement.

- Drink green tea. Yes, it's all people say it is and it's also really effective in easing depression. Try drinking nothing but water and 3 or 4 cups of unsweetened green tea for a week and see if how you feel.

- Force yourself to do things that are mentally stimulating. Crossword puzzles, challenging strategy games, learning a new language, hobbies, art, crafts, etc. Laughter and social interaction too are mentally stimulating. Depression becomes more pervasive and resistant when the sufferer is less mentally active (this is why depression is harder to treat in people with lower IQs and lower levels of mental actitivity).

- If you haven't already, have your thyroid levels tested to see if that's a contributing factor to your depression. Also if you're a woman and have an ASD, have yourself evaluated for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Both of these conditions can trigger derpession, yet can be easily managed with diet and meds.

This is true, you dont want to have to much or you lose the pleasant effects of the other drugs.
But a couple of drinks is okay.
Especially with like valium, tamazepam that sort of thing.

The best method I have found to keep my depression under control is never to take anything seriously and treat everything like a joke. Seriously.

Imagining torturing people that are bad to me helps, too. Smile

Not even a cheerful song like this from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air?
