A cold front just swept through my area, and it's supposed to be cold and rainy today.

It was cold and windy yesterday. The wind caused lots of nuts to fall from my pecan tree. I now have 2 grocery bags full of pecans. Today, I'm going to start cracking them.

Does anyone know if it's true that it doesn't snow, or is a lot less likely to snow, below a certain temperature? People used to say that when I lived in Maine. If this is true, does anyone know why?

From the National Snow and Ice Data Center ( NSIDC ):

"Is it ever too cold to snow?

"No, it can snow even at incredibly cold temperatures as long as there is some source of moisture and some way to lift or cool the air. It is true, however, that most heavy snowfalls occur with relatively warm air temperatures near the ground - typically 15°F or warmer since air can hold more water vapor at warmer temperatures."

Lows near 60 here, and highs near 80. 40% chance of rain.

Thank you for answering my question! That "too cold to snow" idea had been bothering me for a long time because it did not make sense to me and yet it was so pervasive.
