Hey guys,
I'm Izzy. Or Elizabeth. I go by Elizabeth in real life but Izzy online. I'm undiagnosed as of right now, but I have had way too many people (4 in a week, all who knew me but not each other and all who have either an academic or personal connection to autism and asperger's) tell me that I am, and that I should go get a professional evaluation. I've been doing a ton of reading and I do fit a lot of the characteristics, and a lot of the things that are written describe me perfectly. I wrote it all out in a really really really long blog entry, so if you want to know more about me (probably way more than you ever wanted to know), please look at it. I need some advice here, and I'm hoping that some of you will take the time to read it and talk with me. Feel free to PM or email me, I'm happy to talk, and really want to hear what you all think.
In the mean time, I want to be a marine biologist. I love everything ocean and have from a very early age. I'm 19 and just finishing my first year at college. I love college because I finally can live on my own, by my own rules and in my own space. Like I said before, I'm 19, but I'm pretty short. My younger sister is taller than me by 4". I don't mind being short, though.
Other than marine biology, I really love circus. I've been obsessed with it for a long time, and can do nearly everything in the circus except clown. Because I'm short, I get to be thrown around a lot and I really like that. I'm a terrible clown because I am too serious and don't understand jokes or body language. I also like knitting, reading, and classical music. I love my computer. I'm a lesbian. And I love the ocean more than anything else in the world. I want a PhD in marine biology and I want to be a professor so that I can be a teacher and learn new stuff at the same time. I love teaching, because I can help other people learn cool new things about the ocean and about circus, which are the 2 things I teach about.

Hi Izzy
Welcome to Wrong Planet 
I am obsessed with the ocean too (that is why your post stood out!) and I go diving to take underwater photos twice a week. When I am not diving I am looking up stuff on the ocean and marine life, and trying to ID the things that I have photographed  Cephalopods are my favourites. Do you go diving as well? If not I really recommend it. I started last year mainly because I loved the ocean so much (since I was a little kid too) and have done over 200 dives just to see all the critters as well as shipwrecks.
Anyway, good luck with the marine biology, sounds a really interesting career path. |

Hi! I'm dive certified but don't have much time or money to actually dive very often. I love it though. Cephs are really awesome!! I have a friend who is a professor of cephalopod biology, and during his PhD, he trained an octopus to demolish lego subs. My favorite cephalopod fact is that nearly all species of cephalopods are color blind. The one that isn't is the firefly squid. But most species (except nautalises) communicate with complex color patterns. They see in grayscale and polorized light, according to the research I've read. Thanks for the welcome!

Cool about the lego-sub destroying octopus! I think they are very clever though sometimes too clever as I have a friend whose camera got stolen by one underwater and it sat there on top of it for a while and would not give it back! Eventually it got bored and swim away though  One time I saw a cuttlefish eat a sand octopus, it was night time and I felt so bad for the octopus! Could not believe how fast the cuttlefish moved though :O
I have seen the cuttlefish make their back shimmer different colours, my buddy took a video once if you are interested http://www.flickr.com/photos/saspotato/3306547598/. I wonder what it was trying to say... Anyway, I could go on about them for ages

Wow, that cuttlefish video is awesome!
I like mammals best, espeically dolphins and whales. But I also love cephalopods. And pretty much anything in the ocean. If I can relate it to oceans, I like it better. I really like learning all about the whole ocean then looking at how it all effects the behaviors of certain specific animals. I think thats called Behavioral Ecology. It's really cool. I like animals that have interesting communication... I have a minor obsession with communication. Maybe it's 'cause I'm really bad at it and I want to know how other animals do it, since I can't figure out Homo sapiens.

You could send a pm to Sedaka. She studied marine biology before switching to working on the neuroscience of autism. I haven't seen her around, I think she only pops in occasionally now, so you may have to wait a while for an answer.

Hey, thanks for the welcomes and the videos. The first one (contact juggling) was amazing! I've dabbled in contact some, and have a routine, but never performed it... I've seen the 2nd one a couple of times before, but still awesomely cool.

Welcome to WP. I feel most comfortable in my own skin when I'm by the water. Anything and everything to do with the ocean was my first obsession as a child. It's now the thing that calms me the most as an adult. I'm quite excited because I leave on Friday to go to the Bay of Fundy for 2 weeks.  |

OMG, the Bay of Fundy? That's awesome! I'm jealous. What are you looking for there, besides the really big tidal range? I know Right Whales spend time there during their breeding season... maybe you'll get to see some of that.
