Whenever I tried to turn it on or use it for about 5 minutes it shuts down on its own, or it won't turn on. After I plug it in to a computer the backlight won't turn off when it is supposed to. I plugged it in to windows vista, XP, ME, and puppy linux 4.20. What should I do?

My niece has one of those, but she never had any problems with it, that I know of. Is there any way to reset it? Is the battery bad?

I cant do anything with it it froze while it tried to shut itself off so now I see goodbye and the blue ring around the click wheel is still lit. I hate it.

are you mounting or unmounting it (Linux), or Unplug or eject hardware? I've had problems with a Sandisk sort of like that. It wasn't that it wouldn't read, but it wouldn't let go of the thing, unless I turned off the whole computer..

just a possibility.

Do you stop the device properly before you unplug it? I know in Windows, some USB devices (flash drives, external hard drives, etc.) have to be stopped (safely remove hardware), so the files won't get corrupted.
