I thought it was time for this thread. Remember: It doesn't have to be a great film to have a great soundtrack. I'll start it off:
Garden State (Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel)

Hmm... I'm going to have to meditate on this. I definately agree with The Valley Obscurbed By Clouds. Off the top of my head, the sound tracks to alot of Tarrantino films rock, especially Jackie Brown. Another great one is American Graffiti. They paid more for the songs on the soundtrack than they did for the rest of the film but it was well worth it and they made a fortune. There's heaps of others... (runs off to the Sockcave to do some research... hehe)

ooh, just had an 80s inspired brainwave. The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtracks rock, as does Fast Times At Ridgemont High, but perhaps my favourite 80s style film soundtrack comes from a 90s film: Grosse Point Blank. Every single song on this album rocks out and is perfectly montaged with the visual imagery. Coming to mind the most is the scene where David Bowie and Freddie Mercury duet with Under Pressure as John Cusack stares into the baby's eye at the reunion. There is so much intensity and emotion in that scene that comes from the music supporting it. It is heaven.

Some good choices there!
The only thing I liked about the 1982 remake of Cat People was David Bowie performing "Putting Out Fire (With Gasoline)." I also thought that the soundtrack for the "colorized" version of Metropolis was OK.
When I was a teenager, I collected movie soundtracks, especially those by Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams. I tended to listen to them less as I got older, but I still like a lot of Goldsmith's work. My all-time favorite movie music is Arthur Bliss' score for "Things to Come" (1936).
I also forgot to mention Wang Chung's score for To Live and Die in L.A. A really excellent score that demonstrated their musical talent beyond their pop hits. |

| The Thin Red Line, if only for Hans Zimmer's "Journey to the Line." What an amazing piece of music. Also, Vanilla Sky. The Chemical Brothers, Peter Gabriel, and Sigur Rós all together in one crazy mix for a crazy film. I'm probably forgetting a bunch, but those two are big. |

There's this beautiful song in Chronicles of Narnia, the Evacuating London one. I also like the Whale Rider Soundtrack. I'll edit this as I remember more. Actually, I don't know if this counts, but the background music to An Interview with God always brings tears to my eyes, (www.theinterviewwithgod.com)
I'll probably add more.

Hmmm I'm trying to remember all the movie soundtracks I liked but the only ones that come to mind are:
The Lion King
The Matrix - all of them were okay
Moulin Rouge
I know there were others because those aren't the best but I can't remember them
