Anyone tend to talk fast? When i do talk, I talk so fast that my sentences often run together and I'm forced to repeat myself. Also, could this be related to reading? As I tend to read at a very rapid clip and can finish a whole novel in one day. |

YEP. Talking really annoys me because it is so inefficient. If someone asks me a question, it might take a half-second for the answer to pop into my head--but then 30+ seconds to verbalize it. I talk fast to try and get it over with, but that usually ends up with me having to repeat myself and taking even longer. It's especially irritating when I'm working on a given task, and really want to quit talking so I can get back to what I was doing.
It would be so nice if we could selectively transfer thoughts to other people. It'd make life so much easier. |

Heh this sounds exactly like me. It's one reason I try to avoid talking when I can, the other reason being that as I've gotten older my thinking has become increasingly non-linear and difficult to express in a format others can follow. _________________ Quantum Mechanics -- the dreams stuff is made of |

I talk fast sometimes, and slow other times. I don't know why. _________________ Jason Larsen

| I READ really fast, but I think I talk at a normal pace. I can have some trouble pronouncing stuff so I don't really talk at a breakneck speed. I apparently TYPE fast, and if you read my posts you see how well THAT works out for me. ((I was talking to a friend about this today: I have pretty much all the letters to the words I type SOMEWHERE in what I'm typing but they're in somewhat arbitrary order.)) |

I do talk really fast, I think. I don't know why. Maybe it's the fact that I just want to hurry up and finish saying what I need to say so that I can get a response back. But I tend to combine words into one word and then I have to repeat myself. _________________ Being alone is a great fear of mine-Anonymous |

I'm an awesome speaker, I think all the music classes I've taken have helped with controlling my tempo and choir's helped with my diction, tone quality, and volume control. Talking is something I'm great at, just finding a topic that's hard. _________________ (Currently undergoing personality reboot) |

I talk much too fast, and too quietly as well. My speech speeds up when I get nervous.
I too read at a rapid clip. And I write fast too- that’s part of the reason why my handwriting is so bad, and why I prefer to type.
Partly because I like to get things done quickly, and mainly because it’s embarrassing and annoying when people keep having to ask me to repeat myself, I do a lot of communication non-verbally- shrugs, smiles, nods, head-shakings. My utterances tend to be laconic. "Hm?" "OK." "All right." "I don’t mind." I also exaggerate the normal habit of truncating sentences and phrases in colloquial speech (i.e. "Be careful" becomes "Careful", "I don't like it" becomes "Don't like it" and "Are you OK?" becomes "You OK?") and the habit of abbreviating words (i.e. " ’S stupid").
Having said all that, I must also say that I sometimes talk perfectly normally, and sometimes even talk articulately and at length on my current perseveration. |

| I read slowly because I have to understand what's happening. I tend to talk slowly, too. However, when I get excited, I talk really quickly so I usually have to repeat what I just said. I do stutter sometimes (only when I'm asking a question), but I'm working on it. I don't know why but the words I tend to stutter are 'do' and 'are'. |

OH MY GOD! I'm the exact same way! It's like I'm a speed reader, and everyone loves to get me to read from the book in class, because I breeze through a paragraph within 30 seconds, AND I actually record the material while doing so!
I am constantly complained to about how fast I talk, and I also type very fast, faster than my old computer teacher at 120 WPM!
I didn't expect to find people with my exact same problems! This place ROCKS!
I actually consider it a curse as well as a gift. It's a gift when it comes to studying - I rule at studying. However, it's a curse because people want me to repeat things, and my handwriting is considered chicken scratch by most people because my hands move so fast! _________________

Interesting. I write cursive better than print, but because I'm left handed cursive smudges on my hand. _________________ (Currently undergoing personality reboot) |

I'm a good speaker, but my one failing is that I will talk a bit too fast if I'm not careful. I have to think constantly about the speed. It could be related to reading speed; I, too, am an incredibly fast reader.
As for the tangent about writing... my handwriting is COMPLETELY illegible in cursive, and still somewhat untidy even in print. I have a muscle weakness problem in my wrists. In fact, I have incredibly loose joints, period. It's worst in my knees and my wrists though. If you try to hold up my hand, it'll slip through your hand like a jellyfish, it's so floppy and weak. Therefore, I have very poor pencil grip, and can't write for more than a few minutes without getting pressure blisters from having to grip the pencil so hard (hooray for word processors!). I've read that loose joints is actually fairly common among Aspies... I wonder if that's true, or if it's just me... _________________ ~I wanna fly high, so I can reach the highest of all the heavens
