OK, the first thing to say is that I'm not gonna make a thread about all my favourite bands. I've already done a Joy Division one, and I'm now going to ask for your opinions on Depeche Mode.
Only listened to them a few months myself, but to me they have this primal, didactic sound, which makes their music good for building self-esteem, and indeed one of their albums I think is called 'Music for the masses'. However, I only have the new Singles compilation from 86-98.

My favourite (singles) are:

Everything Counts (Great, great song)
Never let Me Down Again
Condemnation
Its no Good
Policy of Truth
A Question of Lust

So your thoughts please......

What can I say? I love them too... I especially love the synths and the vocals.

My current favorites are
1) Precious
2) Enjoy the Silence
3) Wlaking in My Shoes

Great stuff!

It's something that's been recommended to me, but I never got around to listening to any Depeche Mode. I heard their newest isn't as good as their older stuff. What album should I get to start out?

The first time I heard this band, I hated them (Speak & Spell--Vince Clarke period) I thought they were incredibly twee. It wasn't until I heard Violator that I really dug them.

Favorite tracks:
Personal Jesus
Policy of Truth
Enjoy the Silence
Blasphemous Rumors
Master & Servant
I Feel You

I've heard their new CD is really good but haven't heard it yet.

Well having looked at your lists of favourites, I definitely need to buy more of their music. Think I'll go for an earlier, original album this time...

Walking in My Shoes is one that I can definitely relate to.

I also like this line from 'One Caress': "lead me into your darkness, when this world is trying its hardest to leave me unimpressed".

If I bought another CD. it would be either Some Great Reward or Exciter.
