It does for me. I have to go in gradually, due to my sensitivity to the coldness. I also won't dive into a pool unless I've been in it and am used to the water temperature.

I allways jump if I can, it's the quickest way to get used to the temperature. ^^
It's just a matter of not thinking about how cold it is before you do it. Laughing

Haha I second this one. I used to dip down a foot at a time every few minutes but then I learned that if I dive right in, it get used it quicker. I also feel good when I fight with my oversensitivity like that, I feel...accomplished.

My GF hates it and won't let me go swimming with her anymore =/ I think she's overreacting.

Yes. I have always done this. I've never understood those brave folks who could just jump in - I'm in awe of them Very Happy I couldn't even imagine doing that!

I just jump right in. I love swimming even though I hate the feel of water on my face.

I agree with hating the water on the face! Matter of fact, I found if I splashed water on my face FIRST I could get into the pool with much less strain and pain. Same in the shower, I just brave it and get my face wet first and then the rest is easy.

Ditto...

But now jumping into a pool of cold water might not be so good for my heart....I had a heart attack
10 years ago and now I have a slight murmur.

It used to. I used to have to get in slowly. But then I did swim team for a few years, and, well, so much for that. I was forced to dive in. Now I typically jump right in.

If I don't dive straight in I can't get in at all because I find it too cold.

My workaround for getting into a pool slowly is to increase my body temperature beforehand by spending about 5 minutes or so in a spa or sauna. While the water actually feels colder when I go in, the feeling subsides quickly and I can enter quickly.

Is this an ASD thing or do NTs have it, too?

I love cold so I jump right in. I love the Great Lakes. I went there once in my life and the water was amazingly cold. I love it.
