Perhaps the Media will make him a Real Tycoon,

or at least, afford him his own plane.

Any teenager could do this. Is it really important that he's autistic?

Well, it takes a lot of determination to put together a network of dummy companies and the necessary websites etc. It was a well planned ruse. For that kind of determination, it helps a bit being autistic. Most NTs do not have the necessary focus for this kind of thing.

Why? I can see that autism could influence this thing, in that he could be so obsessed with airplanes. Not that it is an excuse, but it could play a part. Or maybe it was just a teen thing gone out of hand. Did the boy cause any harm to the company, that makes you think he had malicious intentions? I actually thought the story was rather humorous.

If this is something he could pull off at 17, it makes me wonder what else he can come up with and pull off. He could end up doing some really interesting things, or he could become the ultimate con artist, I'm curious to see what direction he takes.

How Frank Abagnale.

To be brutally honest, he may just be some NT sociopath trying to be autistic so his sociophobia (?) will be socially accepte.

LOL the sociopath conspiracy theories are hilarious. Perhaps we have paranoid schizophrenics trying to pass themselves of as autistic! (Cue dramatic music!)

To be brutally honest, there is not a single good reason to suspect this person is a sociopath rather than a garden variety autist of one kind or another.

Nothing said in the article is inconsistent with the claim that the teen is characterized by autism. Nothing here suggests sociopathy in particular.

The evidence appears to be that this person has an autistic diagnosis, given by someone who unlike the posters here are qualified to make this determination, not least of all because they’ve actually met and spoken with the individual concerned. There is no evidence to suggest this is mistaken or wrong, and some tid-bits that support this diagnosis.

So unless those making these suggestions and accusations can provide reasonable support for them using facts and logic, I will continue to presume that they are posting from a position of neuro-bigotry and prejudice rather than from good sense, logic, or reason.

I'm not sure the kid really pulled off much of a hoax. Setting up fake websites is trivial, as is creating a fake company, especially if it's a new, private company. Writing some spiffy email and making a few phone calls is also not hard. Compared to some of the social engineering hackers have pulled in the U.S. (think Kevin Mitnick, for instance), often getting millions of credit card numbers or SSNs, this kid is not that impressive to me.

And I agree with pandd, there's no basis for diagnosing "Adam Tait" as a sociopath, even though he was scheming and manipulative.
